A serial killer's wife dies from cancer. His parents-in-law evict him from the house, and now he and his daughter need to move. There's just one small problem: he's got a woman chained in the shed out back, and she's somehow got to come with them.
What follows from here is one of the most compelling thrillers I've ever read. Not a single chapter is written from the killer's POV: they're all written from the women in his life. He is, in effect, a plot device at the center of the story, his story, but not at all about him. The pacing is quick, the premise is interesting, and the writing style is fucking brilliant. It's ripe for analysis and, honestly? It would make for a great high school AP English/Literature study.

It could have been a decent story if it hadn’t been stretched out so much. Sometimes, authors of psychological thrillers extend the plot so far that it undermines the entire premise.
The Quiet Tenant was a quick, easy read for me that did have me on the edge of my seat at some points. I like chapters that are different points of view and this one is from the perspective of 3 women. I found Emily to be truly insufferable, which at times made reading her chapters hard. I wish we had more insight into Aidan. I’m so intrigued with the mind of a criminal and in this case, a serial killer. Getting to know him better would have been a bonus. This was enjoyable, but it seems this could be a great blueprint for an even creepier, psychological story…I just wanted more.

This one had me on the edge of my seat! I loved the multiple points of views in the different chapters so we could see what the MMC was like with different people! ‘Rebecca’ is such a strong character, and so resilient! A very well done mystery/thriller!

It was suspenseful and well-written, but the various inner monologues got pretty tedious and belabored at times, saying things that easily could’ve gone without being said and explaining things that didn’t require explanation.

This is a top tier thriller!! I am absolutely impressed. There are a lot of complexities. I love reading this book in the POV of women. I’ve read another thriller from pov of the women around the killer but that book was way darker and harsher. This one kept me on my toes. Even though knowing nothing about being kidnapped, reading the struggle of May and not sure what to trust and who to trust seemed so real. I found it humanizing and also terrifying. I think what was so captivating is that this man yes violent, and horrible, was also portrayed as a regular guy who can carry on a normal life which is how serial killers can blend in. I think that’s what makes this book so terrifying and such a great read. I truly did not know what was going to happen. And this isn’t as dark as it could’ve been and I’m glad it wasn’t gory.
