DID NOT FINISH

DNF at page 140

What a disappointment this was. I got almost half way when I started skimming chapters to see what happened, and honestly, nothing happens.

This is a repetitive, over-written, boring thriller. It promised so much with it's intriguing cover and the blurbs that said it was 'relentlessly gripping' and 'breathtaking'. But it's just not. It's a boring story about a boring man with a boring daughter and a boring, obsessive girlfriend/stalker, and a boring captive woman in his house.

Nothing happens to these boring people until right at the end of the book. There are other books that do it better than this, so please just don't bother. Don't get sucked in by the pretty cover like I did. It's not worth it.

ehh...this was boring.

Wow! I think this is the best thriller I’ve ever read. And I’ve read about 30 this year alone. I was kept in suspense the entire book. It’s a book about a woman’s bravery and survival, and ultimately a woman’s worst nightmare. A clear 5 stars ⭐️
I really hope this author writes more books because I need more!

3.5/5
The premise of this reminds me a bit of Notes on an Execution and in general I really respect the concept. The serial killer man never gets a voice, instead we hear from the women closest to him (including the woman he’s held hostage for 5 years). My issue is that the middle of this book lacked much tension. In the lack of tension, I was able to think more about some plot points that didn’t fully add up; mainly, how in the hell did his wife or daughter not notice a woman in their shed for literal years/him visiting the shed at strange hours? I also was over the book 15% before it was done and the final big scene wasn’t enough payoff for me. But points for how bonechilling it was at the start and for conceptually being a great idea!

How well do you know your neighbors? That is what the residents in a small upstate town ask themselves after learning what all-around-good-guy Aidan Thomas, a widowed father, has been up to on his property.

The Quiet Tenant is a slow-burn psychological thriller. The bad guy is identified immediately, and the story follows his daily interactions with the town and his darker interactions at home. It is never graphic - the subtle references to past activities allow the reader to make inferences.
I look forward to her upcoming 2025 release!

I really enjoyed this book!!
It kept me on the edge of my seat! I really enjoyed how the book was structured with chapters swiping between POV’s from the main victim, the daughter, passed victims and perspective future unknowing victim. This added a really nice element to the book and built up a really deep and complex understanding of our antagonist!

Although the books ending was not as great as I would have liked, I’ve settled on 4 stars for this first read of 2024. I really enjoyed hearing how this story unfolded through the perspectives of the serial killers daughter, the woman he has held hostage for five years, the current fling, and the rest of his victims. I thought it gave the book an edge and it was interesting how the author wove all of their lives together from past to present. Overall, this book kept me interested and curious as to what would happen next.
