There is just quite a bit of inconsistency with the world building. Once I got to the part where she finds a library and starts talking about enjoying smut and morally grey men , I just couldn’t get back on track. My mind was too focused on all the other little weird, present day phrases and slang to ignore it anymore. It wouldn’t have been a problem if this was like an urban fantasy or more contemporary, but the author sets it up telling us that her “brother” invented a wheeled mop bucket to help the woman who raised them and then they go on to talk about how some still don’t have modern indoor plumbing and they explained how someone did invent it and how it works but like I said, the random modern things thrown in just took me out of it and I could no longer ignore it.
I might come back to this, I might not. Idk, but if you’re someone who can get past little details like that, the story itself was interesting from what I read.

This book was super heavy on the spice. Skipped a decent amount. Cussing sporadically throughout.
The plot was pretty good and the FMC and MMC are great. Cool magical abilities, great plotline. I was a little upset that the MMC was so intensely into Sage from the very beginning, but the reason was revealed later on. Some of the characters genders weren't super obvious or descriptions weren't super obvious but I think there were some gay side characters. Hopefully that doesn't become a main thing in the following books.

Intrigued from the beginning
Let’s start of by saying that some of the twists in this book are insane – insane in a good way that had me gasping in either horror or delight at wat unveils. As this is a series, i know some will come to make more sense as I then further progress through the book, but wow some caught me off guard.
From the start of the book, you do start learning about the world which can be slight overwhelming here and there. But nevertheless, as the book progressed it then became easier to retain and sort through the information. Learning more so about certain characters did have me questioning possibilities early on about what was to happen. Certain hints and storytelling were more obvious than others. Having found this series advertised by the second book, alongside the information from this first book, it was obvious who Sage was. Von was also very easy to pick up on his identity, but that man screamed his powers anyways.
Talking of Von, he is my new obsession. From the first bit of page time, you know he is the morally grey guy us readers will love. To some he is the villain, but this is where the rebirth and thousands of years of history will be unveiled, I'm sure. For now, he is peak, handsome and quiet, protective man – who is more god than man.
I’m excited to continue reading on, I can’t wait to make sense of the final scene of the book and see how we get out from this. But by final scene I mean of both the book and bonus chapter at the end because those who twists had me sitting up in bed shocked.

this would have been so good if it was labelled correctly, it's not an enemies to lovers at all. the whole story was overshadowed by my disappointment of what was wasn't there. i really enjoyed the plot and the storyline but there just wasn't much depth at all, within the storyline, the characters and their relationships.
it wasn't bad per say but i just couldn't enjoy it when things i expected and wanted to be there weren't especially when the author herself said they would.
