- MMC has wings, but no shadows so far.
- FMC is supposed to be trained for battle or to at least protect herself but so far we haven’t seen much of it.
- Some big clues are tossed at FMC that a toddler could pick up but she doesn’t.
- World is supposed to be old, but language used is very modern.
- Despite those complaints I have liked the story a lot. If there are typos I didn’t see them as I listened to the audio.
- I love the plot twist with Kaleb.
- The duet narration is 5/5
- Spice 🌶️🌶️

I have no idea why I didn’t DNF this book - sheer stubborn will forced me to finish it I guess. This book needs MAJOR editing. There are inconsistencies throughout the whole thing, the pacing is odd, the world building is weak - and again, inconsistent. This story supposedly takes place in a historical setting, but the characters use modern terms/language constantly. The MMC seems to have been constructed from a checklist of things that resulted in a whole bunch of awkwardness. The way he interacts with the FMC is weird and cringey - there is no chemistry felt between them at all, and no context for their “insta love” other than some past life connection. Also, the repetitiveness of things… if I have to hear about the MMC’s primal masculinity, or the FMC’s “divine feminine/femininity” one more time… there was just a LOT that this book got wrong.

Sage meets Von and have a complicated relationship as he battles her lost memories while trying to get her to understand and remember who they are to one another. Kaleb, her adopted brother, is conscripted and killed in Sage's attempt to rescue him. Along the way Arkyn, the King's Advisor, meets Sage while she plotted to save her brother and also tries to help her remember who she is and who she is supposed to belong to. As the storyline progresses, we learn Von's real identity as the God of Death and Sage is Aurelia, Goddess of Life. In the end, Arkyn was able to lure and capture Sage and a deal was struck - the crown that was initially made for Aurelia by Von (made before he knew what she was to him) to kill her in exchange for Von's immortal death. Von is stuck in a stasis, not dead and Kaleb comes to Sage as a raven (soul reaper) and tells her about how Von came to him in the afterlife and made him a reaper so he could see Sage again.
