Die ersten paar Kapitel machen nicht viel her, daher habe ich dieses Buch erst im 2. Anlauf gelesen. Die Geschichte wird allerdings nach dieser anfänglichen Hürde ziemlich wild und gut. Die 4 Sterne beziehen sich tatsächlich auf die gute Unterhaltung und den mittleren Teil des Buches.
Nebenbei wird ein wenig die Welt erklärt und die beeinflussenden Kräfte. Man wird aber das Gefühl nicht los, dass dies alles erst in den weiteren Büchern ausreichend passieren wird. Das ist nicht schlimm, allerdings werden politische Motivationen nicht ganz klar. Am Ende lesen wir wieder viel Setup für das folgende Buch. Kann man so machen, ich werde weiterlesen.

4.25 Great pacing, well written and so many twists! I also love a sentient ship and a strong female lead (some nice Farscape vibes). On to book 2!

An interesting read. Artificial intelligence. A nice big left turn which was unexpected.

Has what appears to be something similar with another series. I'm being deliberately vague since I don't want to potentially spoil something.

I enjoyed this one enough to get the second book in the series.

I feel almost guilty that it took me so long to finish this book, because it's not the book's fault. I haven't been doing much novel reading lately, so the fact that it took me two weeks to get through this book shouldn't be taken as an indication of its readability. In fact, I thought the pacing was good, I liked most of the characters, and there's an intriguing setup for the future books.

My only real gripe with this book is I don't much care for Biran. Yeah, there is some interesting political stuff going on in his chapters, but I just didn't find him compelling. I think it's mainly because I have such a strong sense of Sanda but Biran seems like a sheet of wallpaper, fading into the background.

Looking forward to reading book 2!
