Jecsie Hall does it again!!!!!

THIS BOOK!!!! This book had me laughing & crying.. Jescie writes so well! She really knows how to dig into your emotions. She truly captures the emotions of the characters! I love her writing & can’t wait to read more of her work

So disappointed in this book. Let me sum it up…2 damaged people doing drugs, having sex, and doing drugs while having sex….that’s all there was to the plot. I was very let down that this was the follow up from Hawke.

The rate at which my heart is racing could either be from the coke or from the fact that I’m starting to seriously fall for this woman on top of me.

genre: dark romance
pages: 533
writing: single POV
rating: ★★★★ [4/5]
spice: explicit

And with this, I have officially read all of Jescie Hall's books! woohoo!

I started off listening to the audiobook and while the male narrator is great, I just couldn't connect to the female narrator. She made all the girls sound the same and gave them a very pitchy "Cali Girl" voice. However, I truly think some of the scenes were elevated by listening to it on audio, especially the scene where the main characters are tripping on acid felt so visceral!

Now, I do have to say that both characters are highly frustrating as they repeat the same mistakes and self-sabotage their lives, but thus is the nature of addiction: an endless vicious circle of destruction. The story is highly character driven and can feel a little slow at times but it makes up for it in incredible character arcs and emotional depth. Jescie is truly a master at writing introspective characters and deep emotional moments with a pinch of philosophical.

Kid and Han were so wrong for each other, except they were also exactly the thing each other needed to wake up from their drug-infused haze. I loved them together, these little dummies, and their chemistry and spice was absolutely scorching.

Please make sure to read the entire list of trigger warnings as this book deals with a lot of strong content and features severe triggers.

Fave Quotes
“I can make people stick. I’m like a big wad of gum. I’m sweet, fun to blow, and people tend to get stuck to me whether they like it or not.”

Deeper and deeper we go, down the rabbit hole, until we’re both lost in our own demise. No one here can save anyone because no one here wants to be saved.

How do you love someone who doesn’t even love themselves?

“You’re my cancer, Kai. You’re my disease. Spreading throughout me, filling my lungs, infiltrating my heart, seeping from my pores...” Her breath catches. “You’re everywhere.”

“I’m a great roommate. I’m clean, except in the bedroom. Respectful, except in the bedroom. I always pay up, especially in the bedroom.”

This book was so heavy and raw. I’m still crying! This is probably my new favorite book. Wow

Audiobook Review

I truly loved this book. After reading Hawke I really needed Kid’s story. It was a lot darker then I expected. Kid has lived a rough life. He started experimenting with drugs to try and numb the world and not have to feel his overwhelming emotions. He was just bouncing from party to party, in and out of every girls bed. Hawke was the only person to ever care for him. When Hawke and Cole moved to California Kid came too. Han is Cole’s older sister. She is a dark free spirit. She also abuses drugs to alter time and obscure her emotions and memories. She is obsessed with death after witnessing her mother’s accident. They are both drawn to the same flame. This book may not be for all people. Definitely check you trigger warnings. CJ Bloom and Joe Arden did a phenomenal job narrating this book in duet style narration.
