This was way better than Hawk imo.
Hawk was so whiney, but Kid is so light hearted.
It definitely dives into the deep dark side of drug use and all of that, which I love how the author wrote about it.
It was a really really good book.
Very much recommend it.

Warning: This book deals with HEAVY drug use and addiction to substances and people. If this is something you are struggling with, I would not recommend reading this book or read at your own risk
This book follows Kid who we got introduce to in Hawk's book. The book is mainly in Kid's POV which I LOVED it's so refreshing, usually when you read books it's a female perspective but Jescie Hall's Male POV was so well written. I'm usually the girl that enjoys DUAL POV but this book I did not mind one bit.
This book was Tragically beautiful. From Han and Kids Chemistry. From him falling first and her becoming the only drug her wants to need and breath.
To some this book will not be relatable at all to others it'll shatter us to pieces. Addiction can be so many things even people.
While reading this book I was on a rollercoaster. The dark themes where hard but also realistic. I cried, I laughed I was in a haze. The way that this books makes you feel so much for Kid. I can't get over it. To be loved the way that Kid loved Han, to be wanted the way he wanted her and needed the way he needed her. She became everything to him and the cause of him wanting to be better. Even if they were both very much the same yet so different.
This is only my second book Jescie Hall and I have Zero regrets. Highly recommend and I will definitely be picking up more of her books in the future
" Addiction is my weakness.
A cruel temptress that follows me wherever I go.
Slowly dragging me down until I drown.
Until she shows up.
Johanna.
My life preserver in this ocean of drugs and madness.
She's a total enigma, as chaotic as they come. A vixen who lives her life without limits.
But her demons are greater than mine, and they threaten to drown her right alongside me.
I need her as much as she needs me.
We can either hang on and save each other, or we can both sink into oblivion, letting our pasts, our memories, our addictions be the anchor that weighs us down."
What more do you need? The blurb alone is what made me afraid to read it knowing damn well it was gonna hurt but in a good sadistic type of way.

I loved Hawke so much and was so intrigued by Kid in that story and I was so excited when i realized he was getting his story next.
I love him so much.
I just want to protect him at all costs.
Kid moves in with Hawke and Cole for the summer to get himself together.
He meets Han while out one night and that’s it for him he fell hard and fast.
This book is primarily done in Kid’s pov which i actually loved to be inside the male main character brain the whole time.
This book can be heavy and of course as always make sure you know what you are getting into before you dive in.
I highly recommend this book and I really do think everyone should read this and their story is so beautiful.
These are two people who grow so much and I just can’t explain in words how amazing this story is to me.
Once again Jescie Hall is a putting out legendary work.

Woooow!! This book was a whole ass trip and a pleasure. Jescie really did take us in the mind of addict in the most vulnerable way while also putting us in the pain of grief, the happiness and pain of love, and the darkness and beauty of life.
This book was such a contradiction the whole way through. It was heavy topics and content, but with such heart, it made it feel light. Your heart breaks for all the characters but you have this side plot of a happy couple finally finding their way(Hawke & Cole) you see Kid's obsession but feel his love and than you have Han who you see is drowning while also opening up.
I wanted to hug Kai, and I wanted Han's style. The growth we see in the characters mentally was mind-blowing!! The spice was spicy, but the passion definitely made it hotter. I thought I was going to walk away feeling heavy after reading this, but I just felt proud. What a fantastic read!

RATINGS
Overall: 2.4/5
Characters: 3/5
Plot: 1.5/5
Chemistry: 3/5
Spice: 4/5
Pacing: 2/5
MAIN CHARACTERS - Kid & Jo/Han
SYNOPSIS - Deciding to take up an offer from his friend, Kid spends his summer in Cali with the expectation of fucking every thing that moves and expanding his clientele with his drug dealing. When he meets the evasive and enigmatic Han, he finds himself quickly becoming obsessed with all of her eccentricities and falling down the proverbial rabbit hole to win her heart. The more time he spends with her, the more it becomes clear that they're both damaged but, where he is an open book, she is closed off and flighty. Chasing her leads to heartbreak but she's an addiction he can't let go.
REVIEW - There's so much to unload in terms of what this book really brings but the bottom line, for me, is I didn't really enjoy it. Kid spends the majority of the book pining and chasing after Han with their shared destructive tendencies. You felt the pain of her past but the length in which it takes to gain any clarity on it just feels like pulling teeth. I don't mind long books. It's just that, pace-wise, this was way too drawn out and obsessive. Kid falls hard and fast immediately and Han takes MUCH longer to come around to that. I didn't mind that this was primarily from Kid's POV but I think it really limited Han's character to not have her perspective on things from time to time. That being said, the ending is mostly positive so I'm happy for that but the ride it took to get from beginning to end just brought more misery than peace.
As a side note, I did not realize this was a spin-off from [b:Hawke|60206239|Hawke|Jescie Hall|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1643065955l/60206239._SY75_.jpg|94946557] which I have not read yet. It was clear as I was reading that Hawke and Cole's story was bigger than just side characters (hence when I figured out they had a preceding book) but this one didn't require it to understand where the story was at.
WOULD I RECOMMEND -Not really.

Wow
Please check your triggers before reading. This story was intense. Toxic love mixed with addiction and darkness. Kai always saw the good in Han. The good meaning, her everything: her light, her darkness, her pain, her passion. Kai was similar in his damaged of feeling unworthy and fighting his own demons. It took awhile for Han to realize the deep need for someone like Kai. I laughed, I cried, I screamed, I rejoiced. The spice was absolutely incredible. The spice matched both Han and Kid's needs and wants to a T. 5/5 for the story. 4/5 for spice.
