i def like hawke better but still really enjoyed this one

I’m obsessed! I loved this so much I don’t even know what to say. Seeing the growth of the characters was so beautifully done. I loved everyone and loved the silly moments! Ugh so good

What do a blobfish, taxidermy animal mariachi band and drug use have in common? This book, Kid by Jescie Hall.

I did not think I would fall more in love with two characters that are so deeply dark and twisted and have such a rough background. But here I amabsolutely loving Kid and Johanna. My heart broke so much for these two in this book and my emotions filled with so much. Love, anxiousness, heartbreak and anger. These two characters deserve the entire world and have had it stripped from them so many times.

Please be careful and read the trigger warnings in this book before you start. It is very heavy and drug abuse, parental death, severely toxic relationships and lot and a lot of mental health issues. Jesse writes some of the best books I've ever read and the most relatable characters you'll ever meet. I highly recommend this book to anybody who can handle some very strong triggering themes throughout a book. Oh and the spice in this book... Holy fucking shit. This book had me on edge, in that good way, so many times.

it was such a trippy ride reading this book. from the author's detailed story telling to her distinct character voices, it felt like i was right there with them. kid and han were such intelligent characters, it was a delight meeting them and watch their journey unfold. one of the tropes was 'he falls first' but i wanna say that this isn't your typical romance book be the back and forth between them was such a process. the fmc couldnt commit and i was so intrigued be im used to seeing fmc these days fold easily to the mmc that it loses the excitement a bit. kid and han are such unique characters, i dont think ive ever read main characters like them where the author shows their flaws and insecurities. both of them have deep inner struggles and it was honestly so refreshing to read because it makes them more human and not just your typical fictional character. you witness them battle their inner demons and you also struggle with them as they fight external temptations.

this a spin off to her first book, Hawke. I recommend reading that first so you get introduced to the universe

i cant go without telling u the smut is insane and sexy asf he's head over heels for her but she ghosts him. do i need to say more?

i usually dont gravitate towards these kinds of books especially be drugs are heavily talked about but istg i will read anything this author writes! she's flexible with her writing style and her creativity is just mad insane. loveee her work to bits. ive been a fan of her for years since i discovered her on inkitt. ive read all her books there and im so happy that she's finally starting to publish her books because dammit authors who are this good deserve it! if you love imperfect flawed characters and pitch black dark romance, @jescie.hall is the author for you. I cannot recommend her enough.

I enjoyed this story! Kid & Han were the perfect chaotic storm. I also loved the peak into the life of Cole & Hawke.

Omg loved this book. Amazing story. Highly recommend!

WOW! Just, wow. The raw, emotional performances by Joe and CJ set the bar so high for future audiobooks, I don’t know how anything else can really come close.Mind was blown. Panties were melted. Jaws were dropped. Tears were shed.
Disclaimer- Hawke really should be read first for backstory.
This story follows Kid (Kai) after he treks to California to stay with his best friends, Hawke and Cole, for an extended period. Without dreams or ambition, Kid lives day by day floating on his addictive personality, constant;y high on whatever drug he’s ingested to numb his existence. There he meets Cole’s older sister, Han (Johanna), whose existence proves to be Kai’s newest addiction. This story follows their on/off, hot/cold relationship as they struggle through drug addiction, mental health crises, and the plague that is true, soul-changing love.
This is the first audiobook I have listened to at 1.25-1.5x speed to be able to absorb and bask in the emotions that Joe brought to Kid.
Heavy triggers including illicit drug use, knife play, pain play, addiction, depression, off-page suicide, violence, and plenty of on-page sex to rate this a 4/5 on this spice scale.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Like Hawke, I will be listening to this multiple times this year.
