Overall I really liked this book. I felt the beginning and end of this book were great, however the middle fell flat for me. It seemed like it kind of dragged on. I love the story line and the spice!
“My lips were on it first.”
Don’t expect this to be the last you’ll hear from me about KID by Jescie Hall! I had a little crush on Kid from the moment he was introduced in Hawke. I mean, who doesn’t love the philosophical drug dealer with a heart of gold and a ferocious sense of loyalty?! KID is an amazing dark romance story that ensnared my heart from page one. Kid wears a carefree facade while suppressing his demons by chasing his next high. He’s a smooth-talking, genial, leaf-on-the-breeze playboy. On the precipice of revelation or ruin, Kid faces the harsh realities of his lifestyle as his apathy for existence morphs into a passion to save the girl he’s obsessed with. Johanna is one of my new favorite FMCs of all time. She is haunted by past trauma and copes with her pain by finding beauty in the macabre. I love the way Jescie wrote Han as a dichotomy of death and life. Han is obsessed with death but has a zest for life. I love her brazen, f**k it mentality; she does what she wants with unparalleled confidence and answers to no one. That is until she finds the like-minded, yet completely absurd, relentless Kid whose undying devotion lights a path out of the darkness. I was ecstatic to see Hawke and Cole play such pivotal parts in this book. Hawke’s unwavering friendship was everything; his tough love and vulnerability with Kid was heartwarming. KID is a non-stop, crazy ride that takes readers on a journey of heartache, healing, friendship, and untamed, unique, soul-deep love. This audiobook made me snort-laugh, sob, practically combust, and broke my heart into pieces time and again. I honestly loved every second. All the stars to Jescie Hall for showing us that there’s a Snuffleupagus to every Big Bird in this world.
I was blown away by CJ Bloom and Joe Arden in this audiobook. They brought Jescie Hall’s incredible, gut-wrenching, angst-filled story to life with phenomenal performances. CJ’s portrayal of Han was mesmerizing; she embodied the broken, vivacious, fierce AF woman off the page beautifully. Joe was outstanding as the bubbly, caring, crunchy cinnamon roll Kid. The emotional depth CJ and Joe brought to the booth to breathe life into the characters made this audiobook a visceral listening experience. I was drawn in from the moment I pressed play and I was enthralled until the end. It was truly an immersive rollercoaster.

I fell in love with Hawke when I listened to it but for some reason Kid took me a little while to get into it. I loved the story but I think the push and pull just wasn’t the same. I absolutely loved hearing about Kid in Hawkes book but once it came to his own, that took a little while. Once we got into the book though, I was rooting for Kid to get clean and to get everything he deserved in life. To also see the FMC realize the same thing and want the same for him, really made me appreciate the character. Narration though…. Chefs kiss. I felt the pain when the FMC was in trouble.
.
Overall this was still a wonderful book but it was a bit of a struggle for myself to get into.
*I did listen to this audiobook*

Audio performance, especially Joe Arden's is 10/10. This man can EMOTE. Honestly if not for the audio performance this wouldn't have as high a rating. This book is being marketed with other romance books, but it's really just not that. Yes there's a romance, but there's so much trauma. Not really for me, but it is a beautiful story and I do appreciate the resilience of KID in his pursuit of Hon.
Cringy writing and lack of a plot. Characters were also very one-dimensional.
Graphic: Drug abuse, Self harm, Toxic relationship, Blood
The dialogue in this book was way too reminiscent of what a White person thinks Black people sound like. Kind of offensive and exploitative, in my opinion. It felt disrespectful and weird. And the word “bruh” was used unironically way too many times.

I can not express how much I love this book. It has changed my brain chemistry. I think about it at least once a week and will definitely giving it many rereads.
Kid and Han are such strong, yet broken characters that are just trying to cope with their many emotional battles. I love them so much, their chemistry, their instant bond, their strength, everything. It definitely can be a hard read, but it is also fun and fast paced too. Their story feels so real and so raw.

cute
This book was really cute. I would love to say some parts didn’t disappoint me but I wanted more details for the *rabbit* than just one line in the epilogue. I wanted it to play out in real time.
The rest was amazing. It’s a great book.
