I started this book at 9am and finished it at 2pm. If that’s not a sign of a great book, I don’t know what is. This is the 4th book in Lauren’s My Hockey Romance series. Like the others in the series it is a why choose romance. Briar finds love and acceptance with not one, not two, but three professional hockey players.
This was a super fun and fast-paced read. Watching Briar, Hollis, Rhys, and Gavin give into their feelings was both humorous and heartwarming. Each of them had personal issues they needed to navigate, but did so by not only doing the hard work themselves, but learning that it’s also okay to rely on other people who care about you and only want what’s best for you. They all learn that listening is just as important as doing.
Lauren does not disappoint with the witty banter amongst her well-written and well-developed characters. Every time I thought about putting this book down to take a reading break, I just kept turning the page instead. I’m sad to see this series come to an end, but she’s set us up perfectly for a new series in the hockey romance era. I can’t wait to read Wesley’s story next.

I just really enjoy this entire series. There’s obviously a theme but every book is a little different. Even though this book has one FMC and three MMC, it focused more on the emotional connections and less on the physical than some of the other books, in my opinion. There’s still plenty of spice, but it was tamer. The first time all four of them get together is a great scene, but then they just go back to acting like friends and think about what they might do the next night, like they can only do one thing a day. It felt a little awkward. That ends up being a recurring theme. The scene I expected most didn’t happen until the very end. There were a few things that felt awkward (details in the spoiler) and I am knocking off a quarter star for the awkwardness part of it. There wasn’t an explanation as to why. It just felt weird. Otherwise I really enjoyed this listen and the narration was first rate.

In true Lauren Blakely style, you are in for a witty, steamy and well, to be honest, very spicy story!! Because seriously, Briar deserves a break!! And you won’t be able to put the book down!!
Following on in her Hockey Romance series, Well and Truly Pucked can be read as a standalone, but if you’ve read Thoroughly Pucked, you will get glimpses of Aubrey, Dev and Ledger, which helps you make the link to Hollis – the cat whisperer! And whisper his magic he does, but not only on Frances Furbottom…. Truth be told, he isn’t the only one working his magic! Sigh
You will love this friends to lovers, why choose rom com, and look out for Donut who is a wiener dog in more than one! And have fun reading!!

Unfortunately, this book was not for me-but instead of dwelling on why I didn't connect with it, I figured I would just point out some things other readers may like.
This is my first Lauren Blakely book, so I really didn't have any expectation on writing styles or anything like that. I think that her writing style is very easy to follow and it seemed like she tries to incorporate fun into the majority of the book. If you're someone who enjoys a why choose romance where the guys are all down bad for the FMC and there's really not a lot of tension before they get together... then this could be the book for you.
Briar (the FMC) was also the ultimate sunshine character in my opinion. She didn't seem to let much get her down and she was constantly trying to bring others up!
So that this didn't hit the spot for me, but hopeful it will do something for you!

Wow! This read is full of SPICE, sweet, and characters that pulled me into their story. I loved getting to know each of them. Briar, Rhys, Gavin, and Hollis each have their own strengths, their uniqueness to bring to the relationship that is being built. The story flowed well, and didn't lack in connection and heart, even with the amazing heat that burns throughout. It's a read to get comfy with and enjoy from start to finish!
