Beautifully narrated. The Paris Library, was a pretty good historical fiction. The backdrop of Paris WW2 backdrop feels like I was actually seeing what was happening during this period. I just loved the character of Odile. By far one of my favorite characters to have read as of late. I liked how we jumped to past to the present with Lily (the neighbor girl who is taking French lessons. All and all the story was beautifully written and I thought the ending was perfect for this story.

I really enjoyed this book. It offered an interesting perspective on WWII through the eyes of a young adult, and then later showed that same character engaging with a young adult in a different stage of life. The storyline around marrying someone who turns out to be very different than expected was tragic, though the sudden shift to another relationship felt a little abrupt. I also found the theme of obedience versus survival compelling—the tension of following orders while trying to provide for a family was well portrayed. Overall, I thought it was a thoughtful and engaging read.

Libro.fm AudioBook: As a librarian, this book was perfect for me. This title tells the tale of librarians (and others) that keep the American Library in Paris (ALP) open during WWII. There is specific emphasis on Odile and her journey. There is a parallel story to Odelie's like in the 1980's in the United States. Odile has a friendship of sorts with a teenage neighbor, Lily, who is working on a report about France. This is a book about books and book lovers. Odilie's struggle with her family to have a career and be independent is interesting and her determination is admirable. This will be a well-loved book. Thank you to Libro.fm for an advanced listening copy of this title. The audiobook was read by three narrators. All three have the appropriate accents for their characters, good pacing, and carry the book well. They all engage the reader along the way--- I love an audiobook which various narrators. The afterword (read by the author herself), tells the true story about the history of the ALP Library during WWII. A truly fascinating story.

This book was better than I expected. I’ve read a lot of books about libraries and a lot of books about WWII and even some books about libraries during WWll but still liked this book.
