~ ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion ~

I really liked this debut. The first story really sucks you in the way it's written (so original). This was like such a magical mix of fantasy and witchery. I think a lot of people will enjoy this, strong female latinx leads. Not like anything I've read in current years - def recommending to my patrons.

Tropigoth is definitely a beautifully dark aesthetics to have run through your mind. I felt many of this was more fully fantastical than magical realism. I wish I liked it more.

I discovered Marytza and her book because through the Santa Ana Public Library's Instagram account. Like Marytza, I'm a Santa Ana, CA native. I was enticed by the book's description and immediately requested to borrow it from the Santa Ana Library. (Thanks to technology and the Libby app!) I loved the witchy, surreal, and amazingly wonderful storytelling Marytza employs throughout the entire book. I love the way she experiments with writing these short stories while being able to amazingly convey relatable stories about relationships with the self and with others, about love, and life in general. I absolutely was giddy when I read mentions of Santa Ana and its landmarks.

I can't wait to read more from Marytza. Her writing is absolutely a treat to read.
