I do like the idea of reading a wilderness survival camp for teenagers who are going through it, but this just fell flat for me.
There were parts of this book that I thought were poignant and well written. But there were parts that I felt were thin and missing development. Overall it was alright!
This book was much better than I expected. Parts of the ending were predictable but the difference with Everything Beautiful Is Not Ruined is that I enjoyed the progress toward the more predictable parts. Solid 4 if not 4.5 stars.
I was not expecting that ending! Had to stop reading as I was in tears. Really good read.
I picked up this book on a whim, and I'm so glad that I did.
Everything Beautiful is Not Ruined is the story of Ingrid, a girl sent to Peak Wilderness Camp for three weeks in exchange for the opportunity to go to the school of her dreams. At this camp, her strength is tested, and she is not sure she'll even make it through the program. However, throughout this story, Ingrid learns more about herself and learns the true reason she was given this challenge.
This story is impactful, beautifully written, and it left me wanting more. Every character had a backstory, and I was attached to them all. I would honestly love to see a set of companion novels on the origins of each camper. There were points where I questioned Ingrid's decisions and points where I didn't like her as a character, but it was hard to discount her completely when her letters to her mother were so raw and the stories of her past were so relatable. I genuinely felt for her, and I wanted to see her succeed.
I'd recommend this book to anyone with a passion for anything. Ingrid's desire to pursue what she loved is the backbone of this entire book, and the story of how she got to where she is at the end is inspiring, which is amazing to see in a work of fiction. I'd also recommend this book to teens since Ingrid's flashback chapters are so relatable to the experiences of most high school students. Honestly though, I'd recommend this book to anyone. This was an amazing read, and I'm so glad I chose to pick this one up.

I felt annoyed with these characters a lot of the time. It just didn’t feel like... real life? Or events, characters, things, including mental illness, were overdramatized.
I have to admit. This book was absolutely amazing. I read it in one day because it was so good. Definitely one of my favourites.
