There are some books so beautiful that I can never forget them- this is one. Ingrid, her mom and everything is so incredibly pretty and filled me with warmth and sadness simultaneously. They are those characters that will stay with me for a long, long time.

Work in a high school library and my goal for this year was to find some YA that I could soldier through and maybe even enjoy. This is one of them.

As an aside, I try to read YA through the eyes/mind of a teen/ya, but with a somewhat critical eye towards the quality of the writing. Either YA did not exist when I was growing up, or I skipped right over it to adult writing, so much of it seems rather lame. Does nothing to challenge the reader (and I mean challenge on a YA level, develop vocabulary, etc. And, please, don't say that books can just be entertaining because God knows I read enough Victoria Holt in the sixth grade that I could have ghostwritten books for her by high school. I'm working on it.

This book was beautiful. I connected with all the characters. I connected more to the chapters that were based around the characters home life. I also felt they could have made more of the romance. But still this was a beautiful book

Wow! I don’t know what to say. Amazing!

TW for suicide, sexual assault (neither of which I realised when I started reading, btw.)

So this was actually A LOT better than I expected it to be? I bought it on a whim because it sounded really interesting and had great early reviews, and I was not disappointed. The book is kind of split between past and present, and both are really interesting - the past is all about our MC's mother who used to be an opera singer, and lots of complex family dynamics. Then we cross to the present, which is like a wilderness survival camp.

All the characters are so fleshed-out and interesting, and there are some really complex relationships. I also loved the letters that Ingrid wrote.

Overall, really recommend.

This book starts off slightly weak but I promise you stick with it and you shall be rewarded! No spoilers but the ending was highly surprising to me!

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. But wow... Honestly, I would give it 6/5 stars if I could. This book was so captivating. I loved how effortlessly it balanced the light hearted moments with those that were dark and difficult. Because of this I lost track of how many times I laughed and cried while reading this book. This book was so beautiful--in both the writing, the characters, and its message. The synopsis does not in any way do this book justice!

oh my gosh you guys. if you haven’t read this book already, READ IT NOW. it’s essentially about a troubled girl who goes on this crazy camping trip with these insane people. it’s about self-growth, finding yourself, mental illness, sexual assault, and so much more. it was an easy read but it still had depth to it and it made me truly feel for the first time in awhile. it wasn’t perfect but i am so so glad i read it and i will probably read it again someday. please read it. seriously.
