3.75 out of 5 Stars!

Writing the review of this book for me was so hard, because I was expecting to LOVE this book and there isn't a single review for this below 4 stars, but unfortunately it didn't turn out to be the case.

At the beginning it was so very hard of me to get into the book and the characters didn't seem engaging at first, and a lot of times (at first) I wanted to dnf this book. Then, slowly I started to enjoy it. I liked the depth of the story.
The One character that I adored in this book was Ingrid's stepfather.

Moving on to the epilogue: I didn't like it! It's like everything went back to the way it were before.

SpoilerI knew from the beginning that the main character's mom was dead, but as the story progressed the author made it seem like her mother wasn't dead, so I started thinking that she indeed wasn't dead. Then there was the horrible moment in the last few chapters where she explained how her mother left and it felt like the ceiling came crashing down on me, it was such a heart breaking moment for me and I literally became emotional.

i loved this so much like this was actually so healing for me

trigger warnings for this book: sexual assault, suicide

This book pulled on every emotional heart string I have. Ingrid, our main character, goes to a 21 day wilderness camp where she and the other campers are all there because their lives have been hard in some way and they need to get away for a while.

I am a HUGE character hoe and you get to really know and love (or despise) all of these characters. No one felt unneeded or plain. For a reader like myself who loves feeling like I could befriend the characters I am reading, this book stole my heart.

Sexual assault was actually handled in this book?? By this I mean when the assault happened it was not dropped and never spoke of again- the character had people consoling them, letting them know the resources they had if they chose to report their assaulter and how they would be supported in their report, etc. There is even an exchange where two characters discuss the fear of reporting the assault because of the stigma victims face in the legal system. It was just really well handled.

Romance wise, I did get a little bit of angsty-spicy romance (maybe 2 paragraphs). This is definitely not a steamy romance, although I was HOPING for some lakeside scenes.

Overall this was a fast, very enjoyable read.

Beautiful book that made me feel plenty of emotions and kept me wanting to read more.

Il personaggio della madre mi ha fatto davvero arrabbiare, e il finale mi ha fatto arrabbiare ancora di più. Se si è così egoisti non si dovrebbero avere figli.
