If I had to come up with three funniest Percy Jackson characters on the spot it might just be Apollo, Grover and Percy Jackson. Whether it's Apollo's neverending ego, Grover's position of the loveable sidekick or the snarky main hero. So it should come to no surprise that this is one of the best short stories in this universe I've ever read.

Why? Because it is the perfect length to really capture the silly and funny side of the Percy Jackson series. This really felt just like the little quests they do in each PJO book leading up to the finale. Even though there's a lot less pressure and that's good for a short story. This is not groundbreaking and surprising but it shines because of its familiar tone.

This book is like that reunion with an old friend you've been missing like crazy - but didn't realize exactly HOW much until you finally meet up. You don't know why you've lost contact, but somehow life got in the way. This short story reminded me of what it was like reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians for the first time a few summers ago. It was like I was sitting on the balcony again, drink at the side, just reading this as a break from my school workload.

Only this time around it was late at night. I was comfortable in bed and just finished Magnus Chase and the hammer of Thor. Before going to bed I was set on finishing this story. Sometimes when I'm really tired reading actually can feel like a chore. But if I don't do it I feel like I won't go to sleep as nicely. This time I was really tired, but reading was bliss. I smiled and even may have let out a laugh. I mean Percy Jackson, Apollo AND Grover.. what more could you want?

This is a funny short story! It's so entertaining and I love Percy and Grover! They're likeable, fun characters that are so life-like. I just love their world.

Some random things that made me laugh:

* Apollo tells Percy and Grover about songs that they'll hear at Grover's birthday concert. The songs include: Daphne on My Mind, Stairway to Olympus, and Sweet Home Atlantis.

* Percy says to Grover, "Just wait for my cue. Do you still have that blindfold from Pin the Tail on the Human?"

* Percy answers the question Boxers or briefs and then tells you why.

* Percy makes a point to tell you that Justin Bieber songs give him a headache. Me too!

Percy and Grover's mission for Apollo made me smile. Of course, it didn't go according to plan, but somehow they make it work out. If you love the Percy Jackson series, you should definitely read this short story.

For just the Ray Bradbury story alone I would have rated this a 5, but there was not a bad short story in this collection. Fantastic job picking the stories.

Another short story of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I didn't really enjoy this one as it's not important to the rest of the story and it has very few characters.

Well I learned one thing from reading this collection of sci-fi stories... I am not a big fan of science fiction work!

The stories were probably very good and I can appreciate them for their ideas and the writing (on a junior level at least), so that's why I rated it as high as 3 stars, even though I probably won't ever go back through and read these again.

Scratch that, I probably will read The Singer of Apollo again because I'm hopeless Percy Jackson trash.

Percy Jackson and the Singer of Apollo received 3 stars from me

Individual Review: Percy Jackson and the Singer of Apollo was a fun, super short story of Riordan's. I felt like it wasn't as long as a few of his other short stories and wished for more after it was over!

Short and simple, I enjoyed it but I don't feel like it was one of his best. A little cheesy and too simplistic. However, I love Percy Jackson and I'm biased!

But Percy and Grover birthday shenanigan's mixed in with a quest from the god, Apollo, will surely brighten any Percy Jackson fan's day!

Other Reviews:
My favorite story was The Scout by DJ McHale. He's an excellent author and I already loved his Pendragon series, so I had higher expectations for his short story and he delivered. It was fast paced and riveting. I loved the twist at the end as well.

My least favorite was definitely Frost and Fire by non other than Ray Bradbury himself. I wish that hadn't been the case, because I know what a talented and classic writer Bradbury is, however, maybe I'm just not one for his style. It was too out there for me and I actually had a hard time following.

I enjoyed Bouncing the Grinning Goat (although that one seemed more fantasy based to me), the Warlords of Recess, and Plan B. They were quick and fun.

I was severely creeped out by The Klack Bros. Museum because I'm a big baby and I wished I hadn't read that at night. And I was extremely disturbed by The Dirt on Our Shoes. That one left a horrible taste in my mouth, not to mention I found it far fetched and ridiculous.

Soooo, all in all, no more science fiction for this little bookworm!

This one was a quickie for me! I feel like the short stories in it were a little more geared toward younger readers- which is fine. I'm just more used to anthologies with older audiences in mind. However I do think this would be a fabulous collection of stories for a young person. All the tales had twists and I think taught a nice lesson. It was very well curated I think (good job Jon Scieszka). I loved reading my girl Shannon Hale's story and of course Percy is my fav. There were more in there that I wasn't expecting to like but I definitely did. Worth checking out!

Favorite character: PERCY.

Not as good as other short novellas (and the book themselves), but at the end Percy always makes something 100% more enjoyable.
