oh that ending was amazing! i loved it so much bc it stayed so true to addie’s character. yes! i just know she’s going to win!

going in, i thought i wouldn’t like this book as much as i do simply because it was more of a character study than it was a plot-driven story but i think it was actually a good mix of both. the character study was expanded upon through the events happening in the plot so it was a nice balance and kept things interesting enough to have me devouring this in only 7 hours!!

i genuinely loved every word of this book and since i read this through a library loan i am now going to get myself a physical copy of this book so i can re-read it whenever i fancy because i’ll definitely want to read it again in the future for sure. 💚

i love that we had two queer MCs as well. that was amazing. and i was also glad their sexuality wasn’t their entire character. too often in media i see a queer character condensed down to their queerness alone so to see it here as more of an off-hand comment was refreshing.

5 stars all the way!

<Spoiler>VE Schwab's writing style was really nice and easy to read.  The story was built up very slowly, but the changing perspectives, sometimes from the past and then the present, brought in a good change.

What bothered me a bit was that you found out very little about what Addie experienced in her 300-year life.  She wanted to be free and closed herself off by making a deal with Luc.  But instead of using the positive, she hasn't done anything for a very long time and hasn't really experienced anything except seeing an elephant in Paris.

Henry as a character on the other hand was a very interesting character but again we got very little detail about what makes him him.  We got metaphors that were very good, but it wasn't enough.

Henry and Addie as a couple didn't convince me.  I felt for most of the time that the two of them just felt drawn to each other because Henry was finally being seen the way he was feeling and Addie was being seen again and he remembered.

The plot didn't really surprise me but I'm a bit disappointed that Henry was allowed to live in the end and I also find it a bit cheesy that Henry published the book we're reading.

All in all it was a good book and I can understand the hype but I just expected more.

3 stars. Addie La Rue is not a likable character, and I feel like she got exactly what she wanted, even though she probably wouldn’t agree with me. But sometimes her story….her life….was magical, and in certain moments that came through. She and Luc deserve one another.

This was truly amazing I cannot recommend enough. I finished on January 25. 2022 but I would be shocked if this isn’t in my top 5 favourites of the year
