This was a cute little romance book that I read on my lunch hour in about 30 minutes. I really loved the man loving a woman from afar and wanting to do anything to make her happy even if it was a little shady. Roald Dahl books make me happy because there is always a happy ending and he knows how to pack a lot of content into such short books and make it stick. I'm loving all the short story books he has written i think im almost done with them all there could be a few more floating around out there that i missed.

The boys enjoyed this one - mostly because of the backwards tortoise language. I had major problems with the plot, and the more I mull it over, the more I have decided to have a conversation with them about tricking people to get what you want. Problematic.

I read this as a child, and reading it as an adult definitely reveals some other ideas... such as the ridiculousness of Mr Hoppy and how inappropriate what he does is, as well said by Patrick Rothfuss in a review of his. But I enjoyed the writing style, and the mathematical themes good for young readers. This was the shortest book on my “unread” shelf (even though yes, I read it as a child - I’m still counting it as previously unread) and I decided to start the year off promptly after midnight reading it as the first in my project to read all the short books on my shelves this year. ;)

cute little story.... also a little creepy and most definitely deceptive..... not sure it is really a book for kids... could send a bad message.

Oh dear. This was not great. A man decides to woo his suitor by abducting and replacing her tortoise over a period of time until it is the perfect size so he can then ask her out. Not really sure what the moral of this kids book was meant to be... I had such fond memories of Dahl from my childhood - might have to revisit some of the classics now.

Listened to the audiobook in the car driving my niece for a day out. Luckily she was paying more attention to her toys in the back seat than this!

This is a cute short story for those small and small at heart.

Dahl, will always be one of my favorites!

Cute, but definitely not our favourite by Roald Dahl!
