I've been wanting to read this one for about five years or so, ever since it was published, and I'm so glad that I finally got around to it. I have a much clearer understanding of the various factors that led to the fall of the Roman Republic, and later Empire (and no, it wasn't just invading hordes of northern tribes of barbarians as I was taught in Latin classes in high school). It's really amazing to read what the people were thinking at the time of their own system of government, and even their criticisms. They really do speak TO us, reaching out over thousands of years, in a way that grabs our attention.

I highly recommend finding the author's documentary TV series, as it it really helpful to see the various engravings and writings in high definition. You can tell she is really passionate about this subject, and I love that about her.

Don't think I retained a word of this but it was interesting

No puedo parar de pensar en el imperio romano
