Felt like Card had this book in his head for too long - initial brain dump and then boy-oriented adventure. Need to be in a good, gracious mood to read this.

it was ok not great and neither was the narrators

Orson Scott Card takes all that is magical about our past and weaves it into modern fantasy's. In The Lost Gate, Orson takes the ancient gods of all civilizations and makes them Danny's flawed ancestors. I enjoyed the journey of discovering himself and the truth about the world around him that Danny goes on. Well written, enchanting, dynamic, this book is worth a read through.

It was 4 star but as it requires the sequels to get to an ending it is only 3 stars (this is still being generous given how bad the 3rd book is).

The book started out interesting, but quickly went downhill with too much bathroom "humor" and a main character who was kind of a jerk for a lot of the book. Fortunately, the end of the book started getting more interesting again. I'll probably check out the next one just to see what happens.

First Update: I am at the 70% mark and things got really dark and weird.

Also there is a lot of sexual stuff going on that I find weird.

Overall, I was enjoying it until the 70% mark.

Final update:
I have finished the book. The last 15% was good and I ended up enjoying this book.

Was it great? Nope
Did it have an interesting magic system? Kinda
Was is really weird? Absolutely

I had fun reading this book. I enjoyed the two main characters and the ways Card used mythology to work in the world. I always feel like Card's series start off really well and then turn very philosophical and lose a strong plot. I don't mind the philosophy, but I'm hoping the next books will keep the plot that this book started going.
