4.5 stars. I love it. This book did not have one dull moment. I will admit that the beginning was a little hard to get threw because it seemed as though I was reading three different stories, but the way Rhodes made them come together was just awesome. This is my first Morgan Rhodes book and I’ll definitely be getting her others after reading this.
The cover is confusing though. I love the cover, but it literally has nothing to do with the book. I have no idea if the girl is supposed to be Becca or Crys or somebody else, and nobody rode any horses???? WHO IS THIS MYSTERY PERSON?!

What a disappointment. I loved the Falling Kingdoms series and so went into this book with high expectations, none of which were met.
This book was full of flat, cliché characters who seemed to fall in love with each other instantly despite not having a had a proper conversation. The plot was boring and predictable and read like bad fan fiction.
The only reason I even finished this book is because I’m on holiday and have nothing else to read.

I've spent the last few days listening to this on audiobook and all I can think is eh.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as enthralling as Falling Kingdoms and it definitely threw me off every time it switched from modern day to Mytica. I just. I don't feel anything. I may read the next if it's on audiobook, but I'm not going to sit and spend hours in this world when I don't have many hours to sit and read much of anything.

“Tears aren't just for babies. They're proof that you feel something and aren't afraid to show it. It's those that won't ever allow themselves to cry that are the weak ones.”
In this book we are both in Mytica and in the real world. Mytica is still under the rule of the two Goddesses, so it's way before my baby Magnus is born
And that brings me to the part where I say while I really enjoyed this book, I still love the other series a lot more. But let's keep in mind this is only the first book, 2 more to come. And this books has real boring life in it, not nearly as awesome as my Magnus kicking ass and wielding a sword in Mytica. Okay. I'll try and focus on this book and its characters and forget about Magnus
Attempt #1: What I loved the most about this world was the world and all the its mystery. Morgan Rhodes also succeeds in surprising me. She will also put this plot twists that I'll never see coming
Second thing I loved was Maddox. He's such a sweet boy with so much potencial for growing into a powerful badass king. Yes, I'm hoping he's Magnus's ancestor.
Finally I also loved the sisters. Crystal took some time to grow on me. At first she really was getting into my nerves, she was a brat and stupid. But after some time she finally saw the light and became this brave young woman, I'm hoping she will keep in this path and become a good female leader character. Then there's Becca she was easier to like. I liked how she handled her situation and how she dealt with Maddox. If I were Becca I wouldn't rest until I found my way into the magical world. So more interesting.
Oh and I also loved Charlie obviously. Who could hate that adorable thing?!
“I want to be respected. I want to be powerful. And yes, I want to be special. I want to leave a mark on this world so no one forgets who I was.”
Now I'll talk about the one I'm unsure about. Farrell. He's a good guy. Or at least he was. But right now?! I'm really confused on what to think about him. I want to have hope for him, but I still have a bad feeling. But since the same happened when I met Magnus on Falling Kingdoms
Attempt #3: I think it's time to talk about Markus. I'm still not sure what to make of him. He really believes that what he's doing is the right thing. That doesn't make him evil, right?! And his methods are correct in Mytica's eyes, and that's where he came from. So, I choose to not hate him right away. Let's see how he behaves in the second book, I'll decide then. I really wanted him to find love and just be happy. And decent, let's never forget the decent part.
Finally there are a couple side characters that I believe I'll like when I get to know them better. Barnabas and Jackie. I hope we get a chance to get to know them before the author decides they are not worth living anymore. Let's be honest, that happens more often than not.
So to finish, I really liked this book and I have high hopes for the rest of the trilogy. I can't wait for The Darkest Magic. But I'm dying for Crystal Storm and for more and more and more MAGNUS
Loved this! I can't wait to find out what happens next. I loved Becca and Maddox and I look forward to them being reunited. I also love Crystal. She was kick-ass. Didn't care for Farrell too much though. Even before he got his second mark he was a bit of an asshole. I am curious to see what happens to his character though, especially after that ending. He's a troubled young man but he is certainly no Magnus.
I was deeply dissapointed by this book. I didn´t connect with any of the characters, the dialogue felt forced and, honestly, ridiculous, and the instalove was unnecessary and stupid.I really enjoy Falling Kingdoms but this book did not live to my expectations.
Though I'll admit that I appreciated the creativity that went into combining modern-day Toronto and Mytica, and as always, if you're familiar to FK, there were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming at all.
Overall, the characters felt basic and really, not that appealing to me, and combined with the fact that the plot took almost 70% of the book actually start I am in no rush to pick the next book up when it's published.

I refuse to DNF a book.
But man, this was rough.
Mytica should not be mixed with modern day.
I did not like it.
I didn’t like the magic, I didn’t like the storyline of Toronto.
I just didn’t like it.
