lighthearted
the writing is excellent and poetic but I struggled to get on board with the characters and care about their experiences, which is unfortunate as caring for the characters is the key component of short novels. Brilliant writing can only do so much when the novel is under 150 pages.

Beautifully spare and poetic, but I just did not care about the characters.

It really was just okay. The writing is great--it is Kawabata, after all--but I just did not find the story to be all that moving, nor the psychological character development all that interesting. Shimamura is a married man from Tokyo who decides to go to the snow country hot springs and starts an affair with a local girl, Komako. What follows is a sort of evolution of their "Relationship." There is a third person involved as well, a woman named Yoko, though her ultimate role in the story eluded me. It must have been symbolic. An okay read, especially since it is so short. But I doubt I would revisit it.

The description is stunning, the use of the color palette is astute and I saw what the author was doing but none of it moved me and I just grew more and more bored as the pages went on.
This story is all about waste ; wasted effort, wasted love, etc. ; so in a sense it perfectly did that.

Pensé que se trataba de un mapa en Genshin Impact y en lugar de eso terminé con un sentimiento de vacío y melancolía.
