This is definitely the best one of the lot. The characters are lovable, the plot intriguing and the ending made me squeak. Fantastic work!

Mark and Liam were childhood friends. Their connection was always an incredibly close one. Then Liam moved away. All these years later, Liam is a movie producer being accused of some pretty horrible things and he walks into Stonewall Investigations to hire someone to help clear his name. He is assigned to Mark.
Mark is having a rollercoaster sort of day. First, his boyfriend of over a year just broke up with him out of the blue and now his first crush has just walked into the door and asked him out to dinner. Mark says no, wanting to make sure that he's free of the emotions of his breakup before pursuing anything with, arguably, the man of his dreams.
And I like that about Walker. There are no fast and furious one-day-and-we're-in-forever-love in his books. The relationships pause when people need to work on themselves and then unfold like normal adult relationships. Normal adult relationships with a lot of sex.
The relationship parts of the books are always great but I wish that the mysteries weren't so out there. It takes me out of the book a bit.

Quick and entertaining read. Sweet second chance at love story between childhood friends.

The book's written in a very energetic and direct style, which is great for humor and action scenes.
I really enjoyed some of the internal dialogue and the joking banter between the MC's. However, I do feel that some moments in the story would benefit from a little bit more build-up or subtle hinting.

I think the hunt for the Unicorn serial killer should have generated more tension and unease for Liam and Mark than it did now. He's almost an afterthought, introduced so we can follow up on some of the other detectives, whereas he could have been more "present" and threatening than he was now. Not to say that he didn't make his presence known at all :-(

The plot concerning Liam's career was eventually solved by Mark, though I think the investigating he did went too easily, consisting of (mostly) innocuous conversations. The search could have been more eventful, with a bit more danger or suspense lurking behind dark corners. Also, Mark's a detective...he should have figured it out sooner or at least have had an inkling things were not as they seemed. The culprit was suspect from the beginning, I think, and neither Mark nor Liam picked up on that at all. It's okay to create false leads to distract the reader, but the heroes should not have been equally stymied or gullible.

That being said, I am curious to see how things will progress at Stonewall Investigations. I hope the Unicorn will finally get what's coming to him.
