I don’t think he made the point he was trying to make. I found the actions of the characters to not make very much sense. And the plot a bit slow and boring and then very tense in other parts.

Critique : Il est difficile de critiquer une histoire à laquelle je ne trouve aucun réel bon côté. Ce livre était très difficile à lire ; je l’ai trouvé lent et les changements de point de vue m’ont pas mal gênée. Je n’ai pas du tout accroché aux personnages non plus.
Avis : Je n’ai pas tellement apprécié cette lecture ; elle n’était visiblement pas faite pour moi. En soi, ce n’était pas difficile à lire, mais plutôt compliqué à comprendre et à suivre entièrement. La plupart du temps, j’étais perdue et je me demandais où tout cela nous menait. Je crois que si je n’avais pas vu la série, je serais encore plus perdue, c’est dire.

I really like this but I think I will need to sit with it for a while. As usual, the author creates a world and story that feels incredibly real and is deeply thought provoking.

3.5 stars edging towards 4. The premise was interesting, what if Germany and Japan had won World War II and divided the world (and the US) between them what would things look like 15 years after the war. I found this to be very much a "head book", where probably 80% of the book was the various characters just thinking about the things they were going to do or the things that they had done or wondering what the other people were thinking or going to do about them. I had some expectations for the book based on the TV series, but the novel was considerably less dramatic and more cerebral.
It was okay and I'm glad I read it, but I found it a bit dry and the ending to be unsatisfying.
