Left me wanting more. Definitely a bit dated but with that understanding the book is enjoyable. Could have been another 30 pages to flesh more parts of the book out.

Maybe because I had already watched the TV series, but I found this book both deeply unsatisfying and so painfully racist it was challenging to get through. I had a hard time parsing out whether the horrendous internal monologues of these characters was meant to be a comment on their moral repugnance or if it was partially imparted by the author himself, as the book was written so many decades ago. This was my first novel of his, so it was hard to tell. The accents the narrator does didn’t help. In terms of story, I felt as if we got essentially nowhere, and though there were certainly many issues with the show, there was at least some real plot.
