A good book but you will get more out of Boglehead's Guide to Investing (and much of the same material). The narrator in my head had Tony's voice which made it an easy read. Considering checking out his larger related book as there might be more gems in there. Do look forward to the book he mentions wanting to write near the end of the book. Read this cover to cover in just a few days.

This book reads like a marketing sham spent to play on the people who don't trust the main sources, and that this guy will somehow, magically teach you a way to be successful where all others fall. This will soon be overstocked at your local goodwill or library book sale.

It starts with some good information about the ups and downs of the market. The rest is very disappointing.

Quality of the financial advice he gives: 5/5
Relevancy to a broad audience: 4/5
Writing style: 3/5

It was hard to really love this book. The advice was really good and has led me to a few actionable items I plan on addressing soon.

However, he would often say pretty much the same thing over and over again, presumably to drive the point in. It felt a little exhausting to me, though. His writing style took on the tone of a dive-without-planning podcaster. The sections and chapters felt rather disconnected. It didn't help that he frequently referenced his much more detailed book Money: Master the Game, saying something to the effect of "If you'd like to learn more detail about this subject, reference this chapter in my other book."

Part of the purpose of the book was to reach a broader audience, including less financially savvy folks, by writing a smaller, more summarized book. But I found that the advice seemed to mostly focused on investment of savings, completely hand-waving the topics of budgeting and debt management, making it harder for some to really believe his vision of becoming unshakeable.

I found the third section especially hard to stay focused in. I wouldn't say he should have taken it out--having proper motivation for building wealth and understanding what makes you happy is important--just don't tell the reader that you're going to repeat all this information in a book you're going to write later!

Good advice all around. Docked 1.25 stars because it does read like a self help guru seminar (like most personal finance bestsellers) replete with tons of "just you wait, the answer to this question will be revealed later in this book", and a few times some advice conflicts with other advice in the book (e.g., section devoted to timing purchases in the stock market when multiple times it's mentioned how no one can reliably time the market). Still a solid foundational read for anyone starting to develop financial literacy.

I was hoping for some new insights, but it was the exact same information as Money Master the Game.

This is basically a Cliff Notes version of his book Money: Master the Game and therefore more accessible for average people like me who only have a 401K and house. Using the Fee Checker website he recommended for seeing what the fees are for your 401K gave me peace of mind. He recommends index funds. He doesn't say what percentage you should have invested in index funds and bonds and other investments but I came away feeling like I was on the right track.
