this is such a vivid book, with stories that feel so tangible that you can almost reach out and touch them. i felt like i was transported into these vignettes with eve as my tour guide, she has a more polished and poetic tone to her compared to joan didion who tends to feel at arms length at times. eve writes with such humour and honesty painting such beautiful and scathing pictures you can’t help but keep reading. am absolute whirlwind.

Eve babitz the woman she is... Her personality sparkles off the page she is so insightful about people and how she relates to them, more importantly she is funny as hell. LGBTQ queen for the ages

havent read this since highschool, i feel like i appreciate (and relate) to babitz’s writing so much more now or maybe just in a different way than when i was a teenager. nonetheless she’s got such a way with words and im too stupid to explain how i feel when i read her work

I could feel the LA weather on my skin as she was describing it.

I really liked Eve Babitz’s writing and loved most of this. For some reason the lady essay/part didn’t really stick with me and I didn’t love it, so it kind of ended my reading experience on a lower note. but i still really liked this and recommend
