Read it when emo. I extremely agree with Schopenhauer's view that the pain of life is transmitted between generations and that desire and boredom are the two pillars of life.
I wanted to skip the chapter "On Women", but I couldn't restrain my curiosity and read it. This chapter fully demonstrates the tearing of Schopenhauer's thoughts. His so-called thinking on human nature is based on expelling women from the human community. Schopenhauer came to the conclusion that polygamy is beneficial to women from the phenomenon of prostitution, which is ridiculously absurd, showing how shallow his thoughts are in this field. Schopenhauer did not see through human nature, he only looked at the vested interests who were infinitely favored by the patriarchal society. He still has compassion for dogs tied up in chains, but he is indifferent to the attachment and slavery of women, which is very typical.

Very interesting take on romantic pessimism.
Ignore the section on women - totally outdated and inappropriate in most part.

It should be said that this was written when cracks and whips were still used and human rights were held in contention, so I won't exert too much censure on specific essays, especially On Women and On Noise. At least now I understand how he influenced Nietzsche so much.
