Working in a school library, I can see myself reading a hell of a lot more children’s books.

*mild spoilers*

Re-read this as a bit of a cheaty way to reach my end of year reading goal.

I remember loving it as a kid and finding it hilarious. Having now read it through an adult’s eyes, the whole “trick her into marriage” narrative felt so gross. I understand that its a classic and Roald Dahl is of his time but I definitely won’t be reading it to my niece or nephew now.

2 stars for the charming little illustrations.

Hay muchas cosas malas en éste libro. ¿Cómo pueden enseñarle a los niños que mentir, secuestrar y cambiar mascotas es la ruta para enamorar a alguien? No, no.

Read for a challenge - read a child favorite.
I remember I loved this book when I was little - even did a book report about it. I do see now that I'm older, that it's not exactly decent of him to lie to a gullable older lady to trick her into falling in love with him, but it's still cute :)

Interesting little book about a strange love story

Meh. I get the idea of developing confidence by using an unconventional approach, but that lesson gets lost in the very obvious acts of deceit that Mr. Hoppy employs. Not a good lesson in my book.
