I think the kindergartner would give this 5 stars. I'm not ready to do that myself...
Oh my god...this was so good...I already knew that it would be absolutely amazing based on the colors--greys and whites and BRIGHT oranges, but I didn't know just how amazing and interactive it would actually be until I opened it. With illustrations that are darling and fun, Rubin effectively describes the tale of a boy who turns himself and his family into robots. And just when things get interesting...the book turns into a robot too! With...a little help provided from you, of course. With a pull-out wrap-around cover, the book is transformed into a robo-book which allows you to help the family turn back into humans. This was just overall hugely creative and wonderful. This is perfect for your little one who loves robots and science-fiction!

Delightful! Rubin is hilarious as usual in this robot-obsessed story and Salmieri really outdid himself with this fabulous color palette and the surprise bonus artwork at the end.
expected more humor from the author of Dragons Love Tacos. this was cute though, fun to read out loud, the fold out alternative dust jacket is in my opinion a fail though, especially for library books.
For: robot fans; readers looking for an interactive book that takes on a life of its own.
Possible red flags: a little confusing with the metamorphosis, which is also very easy to damage.

This book was just ok for me. I didn't love the narration style in this and didn't find it to be as funny as everyone else did. Maybe because I'm not a giant robot fan? I don't know, just not an amazing book for me. (Also the fold out shiny book jacket that transforms the book into a robot book while a cool idea is really not a smart idea for a kids book. That's one rip away from a part of the story going away.)
This book was really fun to read out loud. And it turns into a robot!
"I liked 5 because I thought they were actually real robots." Very imaginative in how you can flip the book over.
Is this the best picture book ever written? Perhaps. Has everything a well rounded kid wants in a book: robots, becoming a robot, neon orange, destruction, direct action against authority (in this case, the narrator), a little mouse hiding in the kitchen, and a dog. If only it had a blown up mailbox. Oh wait! There it is! Perfect.
