Very engaging telling of the masters life. A bit repetitive at times, as if it were written in section s and not expected to be read as one title. Great and florid analysis of the masters works and moods.

Grande obra!
informative inspiring

Audiobook recommended. It's heavy. Really enjoyed, overall. A very cool character to learn about. Analysis of his paintings and the meaning behind details is probably my favourite bit.

Summer bingo-About art/artist(s)-and-about science, anatomy, engineering, physics, architecture, and so much more. It was fascinating to read about Leonardo's insatiable curiosity and how he spent his life always learning and seeking answers to his questions.

This was an amazing biography of Leonardo da Vinci. I thought that I was fairly knowledgeable about da Vinci, but I now realize that I had barely scratched the surface in my understanding of this genius.
challenging informative slow-paced

This is a beautiful book. Walter Isaacson has done immense justice to the task of shepherding Leonardo's relentless intellectual pursuits into an engrossing narrative. Isaacson expertly builds on Leonardo's interests in optics, anatomy, engineering, architecture, geology -- the list goes on -- suggesting that his most famous works, such as The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa, are the natural culmination of an incessantly curious and incredibly talented mind.

Of course, Leonardo's life is so much more than these justly celebrated paintings. Leonardo wanted to learn as much as he could about the world and his explorations were unhindered by a desire to publish his findings or to demonstrate his erudition. At the very least, these more mundane considerations always took a back-seat to the more pressing matters of understanding the world. Here is a person who truly wanted to know. The paintings may even be said to be incidental to the larger task of gathering a complete understanding of everything.

I have some minor quibbles with Isaacson's surmises about Leonardo's intentions in his work and with his attempts to bring Leonardo's brilliance within everyday reach but those objections pale in the light of a very well-written biography of the person who has been my ultimate hero since childhood.
