This book was great, my only personal ick was our main narrator and I share the same name, but her abusive ex-boyfriend has the same name as my brother??
Other than that, I can understand the hype that this book caused, I still won't be watching the Netflix drama though.

Really good.

It’s most interesting as a book when it interrogates the system that keeps so many people down and how far aid goes until it doesn’t any more. It’s also most interesting when Land examines the gap between the service workers and those that hire them, the divide and similarities shown in houses empty and dirty.

There isn’t much of it in the book, but when it is there, it’s good. It’s an inspiring tale, but a touch overlong and at times almost repetitive. I hesitate to bash writing like this from someone who went through all of this, but after a while it did feel like she could have cut 50+ pages and have the book remain just as impactful.

Listened to audiobook. A really compelling, well-told story that makes you truly understand what it’s like to be Stephanie Land. Her honesty is beautiful, and she brings her experiences to life through dialogue and intricate details of things often viewed as mundane.
