A nice story and enjoyable read. Nothing spectacular but solid. I will probably read some of her other novels in between other things, especially if they're available to check out electronically from the library.

The plot of this book is not great, but it’s addicting because Kristin is just such a fantastic author!

Man does this book work hard to pull at your heartstrings! A priest in love with his brother's baby mama, who literally gives his heart to said brother so he can have a second chance to make good on life, who's fading away while he waits for them all to fall into place together? Get real. It's all pushing too hard, explains too much, and the characters are are as surface level as they come. You can skip this unsuccessful Hannah novel.

1.5 stars rounded up because I’m in a good mood. Too syrupy, unrealistic, simple, and predictable for me. The excessive detail and needless repetition was nauseating. Read like a romance novel, not my thing. None of the characters were believable. Two of the main characters are a cardiologist and a priest, and as a nurse who worked on a cardiac unit and mother of a priest I was probably too critical. Kristin Hannah’s writing definitely evolved and improved with her later books. I can’t believe I finished it. My toxic trait is an inability to stop reading a book no matter how bad it is. Simply awful, don’t waste your time on this one.

Quite predictable and you never really got to know the characters all that much. The entire story was based on a teenaged love affair that happened over a few months but basically ruined the characters lives. I mean, come on. We all had our teenaged love affairs. Sure, this one ended up in a pregnancy and then later a 15 year old daughter, or however old she was. Anyway, it just never clicked for me. I kept waiting to care about ANY of the characters, but it never happened.

I am determined to read every Kristin Hannah book, even the ones that are written right out of a soap opera. Hannah's writing is definitely unique, which is why I continue to read her books. Generally predictable and always some kind of tear jerker.

You can't make this up - a jerk of superstar actor needs a heart transplant, and his doctor is none other than the mother, Madelaine, of his child, Lina he didn't know he had. Angel DeMarco's brother Francis, just happens to be a Catholic priest who is in love with Madeline. You can pretty much guess what is going to happen next - organ donors, angry daughter, love, etc. etc.

The book should was 100 pages too long. I skimmed through the last half, mostly so I could start my next one. Suffice it to say, I will still read all of her books because they're still entertaining!

3.5 stars ~ I'm a big fan of Kristin Hannah's books and slowly going through her old works. She's probably one of my favorite lit fic/historical fic writer. Came across this book in a thriftstore. It didn't occur to me until I started the book that this is basically more like a chicklit/romcom book rather than her signature historical fiction. I couldn't help but hear the song "Home" by Phillip Phillips playing in my head. This book read kinda like a Nicholas Sparks book in the best way. But it had the same heart and emotional toll like how a Kristin Hannah book usually does. Although this isn't my favorite of hers, I still enjoyed the book overall. The "plot twist" wasn't really surprising. I was kinda annoyed with Lina & Angel's characters. And I personally thought they really did Francis' character so dirty. I wish the story took a different route, but I understood why every plot happened. But overall it's a beautiful story about redemption, long lost family, second chance romance, and forgiveness.

3.5 stars... always an easy read, albeit a predictable one. ;)
