When I saw Chirp had a deal on a Kristin Hannah novel, I didn't need to think twice. I had to have it.

Famous heart surgeon Madelaine Hillyard is on top of her profession, but things at home could be better. Her teenage daughter Lina is confused and struggling as many 16 year olds do, but Lina is desperate to know her father, who disappeared before she was born. Making this challenging are the polar opposite DeMarco brothers - Francis, a priest who is always willing to do anything to lend a helping hand, and Angel, the bad boy turned famous actor who stole Madelaine's heart 17 years ago. Now, Angel is back and bound to stir up some trouble while he's home.

This was good but not really anywhere near Hannah's other books in my opinion. I didn't care for the narrator here, but the story is a nice one.

⭐⭐⭐

I see a lot of reviews calling this book “cheesy, light, and predictable” and while yes, it was at times, I still thoroughly enjoyed the story. Each character exhibited growth individually and together and it was beautiful to see them all come together and work out their shared hurt. Kristin Hannah is such a great author and while maybe this wasn’t her strongest, it was still very good.

To me, this book was not up to Kristin Hannah's excellence. I loved "The Great Alone," and "Nightingale" for example. "Home Again" began with an interesting premise: A Hollywood Movie Star, a heart transplant, a single mother, etc... Ms. Hannah's character development and setting descriptions were top notch as usual. However, the story line dissolved into predictability and way too much romance schmaltz. Not one of her best in my opinion!

I love Kristin Hannah, she is one of my favorite authors.
Unfortunately this was probably my least favorite of her books. It was entirely TOO predictable and since I knew the outcome of the book it wasn't exciting to read. Part of me just wanted to skip ahead to confirm my thoughts on the ending.

Kristin Hannah, you did it again! If there is an author I trust to break my heart and put it back together, it is Kristin Hannah. I was very upset about what had to happen in order for Angel to get his second chance, but understand that it was the only thing that would force his redemption.

I enjoyed reading this book enough to continue with it, and it definitely wasn’t a painful read…but it wasn’t a great read either. Almost all of the characters were a bit infuriating and everything was so drawn out. I felt like the entire book was just waiting for the characters to do something. However, I do think it would be hard for Kristin Hannah to write a book that I genuinely dislike. It might be the first Kristin Hannah book that didn’t leave me sobbing.
