Preppers? Sisters? Mysteries? I’m in!!

While I found the first half of the book a bit dense and slow, I found the last third of the book very compelling and interesting! The ending felt satisfying. The little things that bothered me I chalk up to just my own pet peeves (not getting to know the side characters very well who were supposed to be the antagonists, Birdie constantly “twittering,” “squawking,” and “flying,” - it was just too much for me).

Alright. Um.
Not for me, thanks.

I gotta admit, I'm really easily infuriated by cult-like social structures and people following obvious power-hungry dickheads. So it's not that surprising that I'm not the biggest fan of a group of semi-militarized doomsday preppers, and the stories told around them.
But if the story itself were a bit... More compact? If people didn't act dumb? If the main character didn't insist so heavily on her and her sisters being "weird"? Maybe I'd have had a better time with this audiobook.
And yes, blah blah, this is the reality of preppers and such and so, I don't really care.
Let me ask you the following:
Spoiler
- in which scenario is Blue's hair being blue actually relevant to the story? In which scenario is it appropriate for a doomsday-prepper to regularly dye her hair? Who's got the time for that?
- Why wouldn't the author just say Trump? Every single comment about the "current POTUS" tugged on my nerves. Just be fucking real for a sec.
- Being creative is N O T genetic. Maybe they learned some things while they were younger, but holy shit?
- Maybe those kids were all militarized, but jeezus, half the characters just sounded like robots? And not even only the preppers. All of 'em.
- Why did Honey only ever have classes in Chemistry and Art? Like... Was there an educational existence for her apart from her interactions with Remy?
- WHY WERE THE MOTHER AND BLUE ACTUAL PSYCHICS I'M SO DONE

all in all... Not one of my favorites.

This book really hits close to home, especially around this time with the pandemic going on right now. It's such an interesting premise of a book and there were definitely twists that I never saw coming.

We follow the Juniper sisters: Honey, Blue, and Birdie, who just about year or so moved to a compound for preppers in Washington with their mother. We start off with something happening at their high school and the aftermath of that.

We not only get the POV of Honey dealing with things going on with the compound and school. We also get a POV (which is distinct and shown by different type of pages and chapter titles.) A boy name Toby who's a street artist and his lives with his mother who was a famous painter.

I really loved ever character in here, including their dumb decisions that they made. Watching them grow as characters and changing their views on things.

This wasn't quite a five star read because I really didn't understand the point of the letters to Bucky and somethings being unrealistic and convenient for the girls.

This had me on the edge of my seat and had my heart racing through out; it was definitely a page turner. The ending was very sweet and put a smile on my face. Last Girls left me in a good book hangover, I'm looking forward to reading more from Demetra.

I received an ARC from a Goodreads giveaway for this novel that is set to publish in May 2020. Rating is 3.5 stars. The story follows a set of three sisters, Honey, Birdie and Blue Juniper, that all live on a compound that preps for the end of the world. Through a series of events, they learn that everything may not be as it seems. I liked the story that revolved around the Juniper sisters but it was quite confusing at times to read the Tobyisms chapters that were introduced at random intervals with the other story. I did enjoy reading this book and it kept me entertained until the end.

If I told you the world would end tomorrow, would you be prepared?

Birdie, Honey, and Blue - aka the Juniper Sister Weirdos - have been raised their whole lives to be prepared for the end of the world. They live in a compound in the Washington wilderness just like the doomsday preppers on that old Nat Geo show.

I really loved this book. It’s so much more than the initial premise and I love the bond between the sisters and the twists kept me going.

I was really excited for this one and it definitely lived up to my expectations.

An amazing cultish/not dystopian (but prepper) book. Following three girls, that are part of a prepper cult, all the characters are amazing, the storytelling is done really well. I loved everything about this book, and the twist is amazing.
