The story was interesting enough. I liked the bond the characters formed and the environment the author shared, creating a snapshot in a time . One I couldn’t imagine living through. That said I felt the way it was writen was too convenient for the characters. And the end felt disjointed. Perhaps if it was classified as a YA it would’ve felt more aligned with expectations.

The book was 80 pages too long. The book was a reasonable read, however much of the action was told second-hand which made for a laborious read at times.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did. 
The listen was legit and I really liked the characters. I’m
not usually into anything war related, but I thought following the POV of two children was different and interesting. 
I can see why people love Baldacci. He has a strong voice and can write a beautiful story.
