I liked this book much better than the first one, maybe due to the characters being more relatable, less annoying, and also full of personality, and the more engaging plot. The stakes were pretty high in this book, and although the ending was pretty predictable, I found that it was just a good book overall nonetheless, especially because I could get caught up in the story without having to think too much. Some moments of irrational behavior annoyed me, but overall, this book was an interesting read that captivated me. One thing that I find confusing is
the matter of Junu's immortality. So he won't grow old with Somin? I don't know if I missed the part that mentioned the solution to that, but I don't think one was explicitly stated.

I'm not in love with the character focused in this book but ms cho really amped it up in the climax and i appreciate that

the writing was so easy that I want my reading level to be up. I was kind of bored toward the end.

Very solid sequel! I liked the further development of Somin and Junu's relationship and character growth, and the plot was cool.

Vicious Spirits by Kat Cho is marketed as a companion novel to Wicked Spirits but it serves as a direct sequel since the events in this book pick up right after Wicked Fox's ending.

Vicious Spirits explores the two side characters from Wicked Fox,Lee Somin and Junu. I was curious about Junu from the first book and we get to know more about him in this book. Jihoon and Miyoung also appear in this book along with a couple of new characters.

I really loved the dynamic between Somin and Junu. Though some parts felt a bit clichéd and clunky,it was well written for most of the parts. We also get to see familial relationships deeply in this. Especially the relationship between Miyoung and Yena. There's a lot to unpack there. I really loved the relationship between Somin and her mother.

The word building is good and the pacing is even. I loved the short stories and legends which are interspersed in between. They tell us more about Korean culture and legends.
If you liked Wicked Fox,this is a good sequel which you'll enjoy a lot.

A great read for fans of fantasy and K-dramas!

I think this book had good things going for it. I enjoyed the characters and the worldbuilding, and the plot points were interesting enough to keep me reading. Unfortunately, the execution fell through for me, and left me grasping for any emotions while reading. I liked the dynamics between Somin and Junu, and I think the potential was there, but I didn't quite feel the connection between them.

Probably a large portion of what made this book a miss for me was the writing style. Having gone two years between reading the first book and reading this sequel, I came back to it not recalling how choppy the writing is. The fractured sentence structure lacked any real flow for me, and I think that affected my enjoyment of the book. (Not to say those short, staccato-like sentences are a bad thing, necessarily. Personal preference.) I wonder if I might have enjoyed it more had I read it immediately after the first one, but what's done is done.

Overall, I don't regret reading the book, but it's not one I'm likely to return to.

Solid 4 star, maybe even 4.5! The only reason this lost a star for me is it heavy on the romance, and that's not 100% my cup of tea personally - but even I enjoyed the gooey mushy bits, since the characters were really well developed so I was totally rooting for them.

The plot is really captivating, and as I mentioned the character development was truly impressive. I loved the writing style, which is why I read it super quick! I would have liked to see more of Jihoon since he was my favourite in the first book, but that's just my own personal little wish!

You would need to read Wicked Fox to understand what's going on in this companion novel, definitely - in general, if you like romance, ghosts, mythology, grim reapers, and some snarky back and forth conversations - ye will love this book!

I loved it, anyway! If Kat Cho decides to write more in this world I would definitely pick it up. :)
