I knew what this book was going into it yet I severely underestimated how dragging some parts could be. About half way through I was done with the book but still had 13 hours to go. That being said, it does give you a lot of insight to the beginning of Westeros and the Targaryen dynasty and of course is filled with dragons.

I'm 1/2 way through the Mueller Report, but that reads like a broadway show compared to this tripe. Really, Martin? Making us wait more than 10 years for the next book but you took the time out to spin this yarn?? Come ON. I'm a total nerd. I read the Silmarillion- without getting bored- but this read was just asking too much of your audience.

I was not expecting to enjoy so much a book commonly labeled as 'Martin's worst book' or 'the book nobody asked for'.
Very engaging, a suprisingly page turned with lots of political scheming and betrayals, well written and, of course, lots of awesome dragons.

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Was super impressive how gripping it was as a narrative and how great so many of the characters were, given the fact that it's written as a history book.
Only real complaint for me was the last few chapters post Dance of the Dragons. Some of it was still interesting, but a lot of if dragged on and was at times a pain to get through.
