“ I don’t think even habitants of Westeros would be fond of reading a history book written by Maesters “ : this is my review of the book in short!

After the show “House of Dragon” I decided to start reading GOT. In chronological order, the first book to be read is Fire&Blood. I honestly do not think this is the best place to start .

The book is an imaginative history book written by a Targaryen loyalist maester, meaning what has actually happened is probably told in the book in a way to favour their fame. As a result, a lot that’s said in the book should be taken with a grain of salt. One should ask himself “when was the last time, if ever, he enjoyed reading a deviated history book?” before picking this up. To make matters even worse, a lot of the text contains page fillers(if that’s even a word) : unimportant names and characters and what happened to them, copied and pasted between main events to add to the word count or to replicate the boredom caused by history books (?).

The conquest and the Dance were the most exciting parts of the book. The conquest managed to do “Dornish” justice and fix the ruin fell upon them by tv series. Maybe “Rise of the Dragon” is a better way to experience this part of story in ASOIAF. The illustrations in that book may alleviate with the boredom. After all , this is part of the overall story of the series.

My next stop in this world is “a knight of the seven kingdom”. I do hope that during my schedule for reading this series, there will be good news about “winds of winter”, that everyone is waiting for, not “fire&blood part 2”

Listen I just *sigh* I can't get behind a book that not only has rampant incest, but also goes into great detail as to how wonderful the sex and marriages are of said incestuous couples. The only reason I gave it a star is because dragons. Obviously.

DID NOT FINISH

It was too slow and not interesting enough

Had to finally make it DNF. Usually that’s an automatic 1 star but I did genuinely enjoy it while I was reading. It just dragged forever and there were so many places and names. Too much like reading a European history book. Although formatting it as story did help.
