This was OK. Actual historians could learn a thing or two about narrative, even if it is of the fictitious kind here. But Martin could have also expanded at least a wee bit beyond the ruling family and the focus on war. But I guess that's what most people look for in his books. Also, tad disappointed that this wasn't the full history from Conquest to GoT. Perhaps there's a second volume in the making? But please, Winds of Winter next.
Average and Lengthy
I would say I was very committed to about 3/4 of this book. The last 1/4 dragged on, and the endless list of names and their connections to other characters was tiresome. I did appreciate the storyline and lineage within the book; however, it was about 250 pages too long.

Fan de George R. R. Martin, odio que no pueda terminar la serie principal si, pero este libro nos dio muchisimo, ver una serie sabiendo lo que va a pasar, por que ya salio la siguiente serie del mismo mundo no es mi cosa favorita, pero ahora ver desarrollada la historia de los Targaryen, conocer mas sobre esos personajes que se conocieron en Juego de tronos mas como leyendas que como algo que realmente paso

reads like a history book. the chapters right before and after the house of the dragon stuff was good but the rest was long and confusing. I wish they believed in not naming everyone the same thing
If all history books were written like this, I might have paid more attention at school.
A bit like reading a textbook but I can't say I wasn't warned. Yep, you read that right, I've been reading this book for 1.5 years. Can't wait for House of the Dragon season 2 premier so I can act better than everyone else for having read the book.
