So good! Encouraging and inspiring. Every time I read it, I felt like I was sitting with a friend who wanted to cheer me on. I love the RAR podcast. This book is a great resource and while it does contain a lot of information from her podcasts, it’s great to have it in print and be able to reference as needed.

SO inspiring and a game changing catalyst for our “family culture.” Makes me even more thrilled for what lies ahead with my children.

Excellent reading lists, and some good research presented. I didn't need to be convinced that reading aloud is valuable, though. I've been aboard that train my whole life.

I loved everything about this book! It was the perfect mix of statistics, personal experiences (from her and others she talked with), and practical advice. I loved the references to other books teaching about the importance of reading and reading aloud and I loved the references to novels and pictures books (it made me want to go read or reread all of them!). I like the way the book list is organized in the back; I'm excited to check out the ones I haven't read with my kids yet and agreed with the ones we have read that they're great ones (I only went through the book list up to my kids' ages).

My favorite part of the book was when she talked about compelling questions, it was a concept that was unique from other books I've read more similar to this one, but also really useful and important. I also felt that it applied to myself as well as to conversations I have with my kids--I want to start keeping a better book journal and asking myself some of these questions as I'm reading to enhance my own experience.

I thought this book was very well done and had such useful and inspiring information in it. Even though I already knew how important it is to read aloud, I still found a lot to inspire me to be better and thought the book was very useful and contained unique information. Definitely a must for our home library!

I have listened to Sarah’s podcast on and off for a couple of years now, and I found this book to be more of a mash up of advice she has expressed in various podcasts throughout the years. It was basically, “Read aloud to your kids,” and anecdotes about how meaningful it has been for her over the years. It was pretty much what I had expected, and I don’t think I would have read it if it hadn’t been available at my library. That being said, I do take the advice here to heart, and plan on reading to my kids even after they learn to read on their own. My oldest can read, but he still has difficulty with certain words, and benefits a great deal from being read to on a daily basis from books that are too difficult for him to read on his own.

I bought this book and am glad I did. This is one that I will read again and again. I still read to my 16 and 12 year old kids before bed at night, and this book is an inspiration to keep it going for as long as they will let me. There were several things I came across in the book where I had to immediately look up on line more about the topic she was talking about. Quick read!

This is one mom's perspective on how Jim Trelease's The Read-Aloud Handbook transformed her as a parent. I had a similar journey, so I felt a connection to her and this book. There is not much earth-shattering here, though. Read this book for the book lists, if nothing else; those are always interesting and helpful!

I was initially skeptical about whether or not I’d get something from this book since we already read aloud as a family. But this book helps take my passion to the next level, offering awesome discussion questions, an age appropriate book list, and the much needed nudge and reassurance that even though my kids are now at the age where they read on their own, it’s still vital to continue reading out loud together as well.
