The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections with Your Kids

I did not need to be converted to reading aloud to my kids, but I got some fun ideas and book suggestions from this read. More than anything, I found myself connecting with the writer on most points and just leaving with a little bit more inspiration to keep aiming to connect with my boys (and my students) through books. Worth my time, for sure.
I was excited from the beginning that Sarah was writing a book as I have listened to every episode of her great podcast Read-Aloud Revival (I have a whole shelf here dedicated to the recommendations found on the podcast if you're interested...). There was more new material that she hadn't used in her podcast than I expected. And even on the sections that I have already heard her speak about multiple times, it's great to be able to pull the book out and give myself a shot in the arm and get excited about it again. I was impressed that there were quite a few book recommendations that I haven't seen in her podcast very much or at all.

This was a great read! Full of inspiring yet practical tips on reading to every age child
I loved this book! I cannot wait for summer to start! So many books for us to read together! My goal in life is to have children who love to read. So many good resources in this book along with obvious thoughts on how to nurture the love of reading to your kids.
If you’re a teacher this is applicable for your students as well!

This book encouraged me to continue to read aloud to my boys. I love how she recommended many peoples I’ve never heard of.
I found this book so validating of my efforts to make reading aloud to my kids a priority. I appreciated her insights and good ideas though things sometimes got repetitive. (I do think some parts could have been condensed instead of being the same thing said worded differently a few times.) I am stoked to create my own book list to share with my kids using the suggestions she provided.
I couldn't have loved this book more if I had tried. It was perfect in two ways: it was instructional—for myself, both as a librarian and a someday-mama-to-be—but it was also nostalgic. There was something incredibly encouraging about reading words from a Mama charging other parents to engage their children through books in the same way that my parents engaged me. I teared up often, thinking, "Yes! She gets it. I am who I am today because of the time my parents spent reading with me."
I listened to this on audible and I really enjoyed the authors narration. Some parts dragged a little for me and were a bit repetitive.
Overall, this book really did inspire me to start reading aloud to my nine year old so we can bond more. I’m glad she wrote this book!

I finished this book with a big happy sigh! Such a lovely read and resource. Reading aloud is near and dear to my heart, and was thrilled to get an ARC of this book. (Thank you Zondervan!)
Like Sarah talks about on her podcast, The Read-Aloud Revival, this book is for anyone who'd like to create a reading culture in their home.
It's full of new books lists, encouragement and inspiration for any family looking to make a lasting connections with their kids through books, and all sorts of tips and tricks from reading with little ones or kids who need to move around while you read to all the (numerous) benefits of a reading life now for our children and for their future!
Even if you’ve listening to Sarah’s podcast since it’s beginning as I have, I still recommend this read. I love reading books of book lists and book about reading and this one is easily my new favorite. A perfect gift to any new mama at every baby shower!
“The stories we read together act as a bridge when we can’t seem to find another way to connect. They are our currency, our language, our family culture. The words and stories we share become a part of our family identity.”
