I liked this book by podcaster Sarah Mackenzie. The first sections are a reminder about how important reading aloud to your kids are, even once they can read for themselves. I borrowed a copy from the library but definitely want to purchase one to have on my shelf. She presents 10 questions you can use for book club type discussions with any book. And then there are book lists at the back, broken out by level, along with activities to keep your kiddos hands busy while you read. A great resource to keep handy.

My rating is really 3.5. Overall the book was a little too fluffy for my tastes (the world is beautiful and my children are perfect) but it had lots of good advice and tips that made it worth reading. The list at the end of the book on recommended read aloud books by age was fantastic!!!

This book has motivated me to make reading with my kids even more of a priority. The author convincingly lays out the proven benefits and gives great ideas for making reading time a success. I loved her booklists at the back and am looking forward to experiencing new reading adventures with my kids. I would recommend this book to anyone with children (educators too).

I’m a big fan of Sarah’s Read-Aloud Revival podcast and website, and have gotten many book recommendations and ideas from her over the years. I’m especially grateful that she introduced me to Simple Book Journals and Commonplace books. Sarah is a great writer, and this book is the perfect blend of encouragement, practical advice, and book recommendations. Highly recommended to both listeners of her podcast and to those who are brand new to the Read-Aloud Revival.

As a new homeschooling mom, this book was a must have for my bookshelf! I marked so many quotes and notes, I’ll cherish this book!

Fantastic book on the importance of reading aloud to our kids even as they get older and can read themselves. I will reference several times I'm the future!

I knew I’d appreciate and enjoy this book, but I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. After all, I’d already read The Read Aloud Handbook! I am happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. It was warmly written, engaging, informative, inspiring, and so so encouraging! I got so many ideas to encourage reading aloud in our family, but beyond even that, it put my mind at ease about the disparities between how I imagine reading aloud to my kids will look verses how it actually looks. And her suggestions for books to read aloud are SPOT ON. I highly HIGHLY recommend this book for parents and anyone who loves the kids in their life.

I feel like I should mention that this book has elements of faith woven in because it appears some readers don’t know that going in? As a Christian myself, and a parent who is interested in that aspect of my children’s lives, I found it a lovely addition to the book, but hardly preachy. I obviously can’t speak for everyone, but I feel even people who aren’t Christians and don’t care about faith would get a great deal out of the book. But if you don’t want anything regarding faith to appear in your reading life, now you know.

Definitely something I’ll be referencing in our library trips! Just the kind of book lists that are helpful for me. The substance of the book was good too. Could have used a tighter edit; it got a little circular.
