I’m very….intrigued. I’m not even really sure how to explain.

I’ll start off with this: The best way to explain this dynamic is that I imagine Tessa is a Sagittarius and Theon is a VIRGO male. The girlies that get it, get it- UNFORTUNATELY. They have chemistry, but goddamn they cannot communicate or understand each other enough to make the right decision for the other person. AND just add in the fact that they have DEEP trauma as individuals and are forced to be bonded. It’s essentially a recipe for disaster. But a really fun one ;)

The storyline is unique and I haven’t read anything that painted a world like this or a dynamic like this before. The beginning hooked me immediately. I couldn’t put it down.

I made sure I read the little disclaimer in the beginning that warned me I was definitely going to hate some of these characters for a while, and yeah, damn right. Even after finishing the book, I can’t decide if I like Theon or hate him lol. But the side characters were great.

As for the FMC, I actually really liked Tessa. I relate to her in a lot of ways that I wish I didn’t and in ways that I’m glad I do. I think it did get a little difficult for me to see her constantly get used & abused at every turn. I struggled a little more with that than I thought I would. I guess I was just frustrated wanting someone to just put in the effort to understand her. But I think all of this was a good arc to the complexity of her character.

Overall, I think there’s a lotttt of potential!!! I’m definitely reading book 2 and I’m excited to see where this goes

I should have known this wasn't for me when the author's note essentially tells you 1) that you won't like this story until you read several more books, and 2) if you're at all uncomfortable with abuse between the MCs, that's your fault for not understanding her definition of *dArK rOmAnCe*. Thanks, but no, thanks.

This is a tough one to rate. I’m settling between a 2-3. I enjoyed it and flew through it… but did I really like it??

I highly recommend checking the content warnings before reading!
This is classified as a “dark fantasy romance,” although it’s not the “darkest” thing I (and likely you) have read. I definitely would not consider this an enemies to lovers, and more of a “bully” romance, with some themes of forced discomfort, “consequences”, and childhood trauma brought to light through a forced bond (forced proximity vibes maybe??) (notice a lot of the word “forced,” eh?).

I felt like there was a lotttt of nothing / repetition going on through this book and we weren’t realllly getting any information until the literal epilogue? As for the romance, by the end, I really just wanted the FMC to actually like the MMC? Like not blame the female, but girl please give him a chance??? Like we know you’re mad? We know you don’t want this? But like??? The book wasn’t flowing how I was hoping?

I’ll definitely be starting the next book, but I’m not confident I’ll feel drawn in and finish this series out.

What an absolutely gripping start to this series. This book is intense, dark, and completely consuming. From the very first chapter, I was sucked into the world of Devram: a place of gods, forgotten realms, and a magic system that unfolds seamlessly.
Theon and Tessa's dynamic is electric. The tension between them is undeniable, even if the constant push and pull had me dizzy at times. But honestly? I lived for it. Their chemistry kept me glued to the pages, desperate to see where their connection would lead.
The blend of fantasy and darkness makes this a must-read for romantasy lovers, especially those who crave high stakes, an intriguing magic system, and morally grey characters. This was an easy six-star read for me, completely unputdownable. If you are looking for your next obsession, Rain of Shadows and Endings is it.
