Much better after I found and read the prequel, Unwanted Love — everything about their history made so much more sense!
I was incredibly uncomfortable at how the characters acted and how they responded to each other. Skylar had some serious self esteem issues that Nathan didnt help. While I understood her insecurities, she didnt seem to get more confident as the story went on. Even when Nathan "showed" how he felt. I dont think Nathan ever really cared anyway so it made their relationship less realistic. Some of the things he did especially for her first time was a bit much. I dont believe them as a couple. The story isn't a win in my book. Did seem to have some good potential but not the greatest follow through. Im not sure if I'll try book 2 in this series or another series altogether.
Steele knows her way around the heart. From the waltz of temptation to the two-step of heartache, The Unwanted Wife tangos it's way into your soul. Skylar and Nathan turn a conveniently, inconvenient marriage into an accidentally perfect second chance. Sweet and sultry never loses sight of the emotion that romance entails.

This is my first book by this author and I was hooked from the very beginning. I loved the plot and characters. I was all in for this sunshine/grumpy romance.
Skylar is a sweet soul who is struggling to keep her business afloat. So when her brother's best friend and long time crush comes into her bakery with a proposition to help her with her business in exchange of a marriage contract she doesn't have another choice but to accept
Nathan at the beginning appears to be an arrogant prick who really only wants revenge for the way his late mother was treated by the Davenports family, but little by little you get the whole picture of why he acts this way and the fact the her best friends little sister has been a constant in his life. The fact is that he can't walk away from Skylar and while he knows he doesn't deserve her, he wants to make sure she is well taken care of and so he does everything in his power to make her happy.
I loved their relationship and how Skylar was able to melt Nathan's walls, but there is secret that Nathan is keeping from her, something that really took me by surprise and I think this author did a fantastic job with this twist in the story.
Now the best way to go into this book is blind and experience a true love between the main characters.
I kept reading because everyone really hyped this book up. I guessed the plot twist at 49% in (her brother is dead and she is having some sort of trauma response?) and just couldn’t continue. The writing was stilted and not very good. I didn’t like how abusive the MMC was and there were lots of weird random plot lines. His need for revenge? Her random severely disabled friend? It all felt super unorganized and random. Super disappointing because I’ve read a couple of her other books and they’ve been decent. Not 5 stars but a solid 3.
Idk why I keep giving her a shot. Her books aren't good
