Such a good read! I have to say that I absolutely love all of L. Steele’s books - and this one did not disappoint! Great character development, great story, an interesting twist! I loved Skylar’s shop and the names of the baked goods were hilarious. Nathan and Skylar met years ago - will this fake marriage turn out to be real? You’ll have to read to find out - I can’t wait to read the next installment in The Davenport’s series!!!

This book is the literary equivalent of a coping mechanism that's become the person's entire personality.
I should have gotten off the ride at the very beginning when Skye started listing off the deeply unimaginative attempt at tawdry, TikToky pastry names and bumbling through what was, I'm assuming, supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek rambling of intentionally unintentional innuendos. Everything just felt like the author was trying too hard, which made for a super forced, awkward, rushed read.
I don't know, maybe it's an age thing? Maybe if I was a teenager I could giggle and swoon my way through it.
Now? Not so much.

Terrible writing. Juvenile and repetitive.

Up front my biggest issue with this book was that it in NO WAY matches the blurb. It wasn't what I thought I was getting. It had moments that were full of potential but didn't really get there. The dialogue and word choices at time were a bit much. It felt awkward at times. I don't think we really got to see a relationship build that matches the intensity of feelings that are randomly poured out by the characters in the book. I felt like some plot points appeared out of nowhere as an attempt to add to the story, but which just felt odd. I think the story gave Nate a plot point that was completely useless other than to set up for future stories. I honestly felt super let down by this one. It needed to feel more cohesive and focused on the couple not everyone else in their friend circle.

First, I enjoyed it, but after a while, it got a bit confusing, and I stopped reading at 75%. The story had potential, but I was disappointed by the execution.
