While I liked this story, it was a little slow. I liked that Wes isn't the stereotypical gay kid.

Skater Boy is a breath of fresh air. This is the first YA romance that I have read that allows a young, queer character like Wes the room to breathe, to be angry, to make mistakes, and to find a better version of himself. Wes' story is inspiring (had me crying and laughing in all the best ways). This is definitely a must-read for anyone who has struggled with their identity in any way!

Shout out to nothing else matters. SASHA THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO LOOK BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL BOOKS. Yeeeeaaaahhhh the fucking dialogue and expositional narration was SO PAINFUL to read. I actually can’t but it turns out I could because there was a touch of angst. Far out though I wish the prose was more lyrical and ONVIOUSLY show not tell. Big deep breath. That was pretty difficult.

This audiobook reader always drives me nuts at the beginning of a book. Sounds so damned whiny.

But, I’ve listened to several of his narrations and I always end up liking them a lot.

This book was fine. Kid had it rough. Was misunderstood. Then the victims of his bullshit cut him some breaks and everybody is better for it.

The lesson about Grace for others and for yourself is worth it. But it sucks it’s at the expense of others.

This was cute, and I liked the book's message!
Buuuut, it didn't blow my mind. I felt like it was trying to be heartfelt and emotional, but for me it fell a little short of what it could have been.
While reading, I had thoughts like "Now it wants me to feel this", and "Now I'm suppose to be happy that everybody's happy", but I didn't feel it:(
The writing had too many clichés and platitudes, and was therefore a little bland (and cringe, sorry🥲)

It's a book about an angry teenager, and I wanted more anger, more tention, and more unfilteredness.

It was okay, but not my cup of tea<3

Wow this book was everything. As someone who is also a punk, the authors not at the beginning about loving to listen to MCR one second and blast the newest musical straight off of Broadway the next really spoke to me and told me I was in good hands. And boy was I.
I love the chapter titles all being based off of iconic punk/rock/metal songs. I love the whole book being based off of one of the most iconic songs of all times just with the gay twist we were all wanting. This is one of those books that is going to be with me for a long time.

Thank you Netgalley, Anthony Nerada and Soho Teen & Recorded book for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review

sooooooooo good. no words to describe it, i completely devoured the book and put all homework aside... when avril said "he was a punk she did ballet" anthony nerada really said he was a punk and he did ballet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there were so many different characters and complexity and it was great to say all of the different layers unfold. i love this and am so glad i came across this recommendation
