The Mythos Academy is one of the very few YA series I still religiously follow. I always look forward to the next Gwen adventure and Jennifer Estep has yet to come close to disappoint me. Crimson Frost is no exception.

I love the mythical world Estep has created and the awesome characters we get to follow are just icing on the cake. There is so much going on in Crimson Frost and my heart breaks so many times, that I am fighting with all my being to avoid spoilers.

Gwen is such a great YA heroine for me. She is so strong and smart; and at the same time she is so freaking flawed that you can’t help but love her. In Crimson Frost she is on trial and trying to prove that is actually one of the good guys, but that might very difficult to do when everything seems to be against her.

Besides such a great leading lady, the Mythos Academy series has great supporting characters like Logan, Carson, Daphne, to name a few. I really enjoy Gwen’s relationship with these characters and how these relationships make her a much richer heroine.

Jennifer Estep delivers another spectacular book in Crimson Frost and one more time I am biting my nails for the next installment.

This was a good continuation of the series. I love that Gwen is continuing to improve on her skills as Nike's champion. The story on a whole was interesting and well paced. I like the direction that the battle with Loki and the Reapers is taking.

I will say I stopped listening to the audiobook halfway through because I was just not in the right mindset to listen to all the unfairness and persecution Gwen has to put up with in this book. That's not a criticism, just a warning that if you're in the mood for something lighter this may not be the best choice.

With how bad I thought the previous book in the series was, I wasn't holding out much hope for this story. I have to say though, it surprised me!

With the Harry Potter-esque events of the previous book, I wasn't sure where things could go from here, but we end up with a very revealing plot that does much to showcase Gwen's growth as a character. Sure, she's still annoyingly self-judgemental, but she's on her own for much of this book, and that showcases her growth. She starts to actually believe in herself for this story, and the ultimate showdown at the end of this book shows her moral boundaries on her magic. I found it especially interesting overall, and am eager to read the next book in the series!

This series has definitely become one of my top 10

Series: Mythos Academy #4
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Gwen is finally going on her first official date with Logan but as you can expect from her, things don’t end as planned. Now she has to deal with being on trial and trying to stop the Reapers.

This book was fast paced and seemed to fly by. As expected of Gwen, she has found herself in trouble again but this time from the Protectorate. I really wasn’t expecting this turn of events in this series but actually made for a really good story. I couldn’t put this book down and read it through in one sitting.

Gwen is totally a trouble magnet but she is also very protective of others. I love how even though everything is potentially falling apart around her she still strives to save people, especially her friends. She is definitely turning into a warrior. Also we really see Gwen’s friends step up in this one and I loved them even more for it.

I really enjoyed learning about the Protectorate in this one, even under the circumstances. The battle against Loki really heats up with this one and we see new betrayals, deaths, and trauma happen. This is a very fascinating world and I am loving it even more with every book. Estep really knows how to create a captivating world with great characters in it.

My only real complaint is Logan and Gwen’s relationship. I am getting tired of the constant back and forth drama that happens every time a Reaper incident occurs. But, I do feel it captures the essence of teenage relationship drama, which is accurate to the characters. I am just a bit tired of it at this point.

Overall, this was a suspenseful continuation of Gwen’s story against Loki. I am really looking forward to seeing what is going to happen next, especially with Logan.
