Eloquently written, hard to put down. Heart wrenching, mysterious, disturbing, and lovely. Some great twists and turns that unfold perfectly. I usually don’t save books i’ve read into my physical library to reread, but this one I will.

I was the lucky winner of a copy of this debut novel, courtesy of a Twitter giveaway sponsored by the Unlikeable Female Characters podcast. This slow-burn of a tale dripped with moody atmosphere. The main character, Sylvie, returns home to care for her estranged mother, Annie, who is undergoing cancer treatment. Sylvie has never had a close relationship with her mother, but the murder of her sister, Persephone, sixteen years prior drove a deep wedge between them that never healed. Persephone's unsolved murder continues to impact their lives in the present and serves as the focal point for this story. After returning home and running into Persephone's former boyfriend whom she has always suspected of committing the crime, Sylvie begins to dig into the past and dangerous secrets long buried are soon revealed.
A word of caution -- one of the plot points that is revealed towards the end of the book is disturbing; clues are laid out methodically as the story unfolds, but it is still gave me an ick factor shiver when I got to the big reveal. If you're ok with a darker plot and being uncomfortable, this was a well-written, well-paced debut thriller that made me want to keep an eye out for future offerings from this author. If you prefer your mysteries on the cozy end of the spectrum, this may not be for you.

Spoiler
I don't normally include spoilers or trigger warnings, but incest factors into the story.
This book has been on my shelf, since February 2019. I wish I had picked it up sooner. I was such a fast read. And enjoyable. Megan Collins got me in the end. I didn’t like the mother, but you have to hate someone in every book!!

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Winter Sister was so freaking good! From the very first page, I was hooked. Now I knew lots of people were reading this way before I even got the ARC.. but then once I got it, I sort of forgot about it as well. Oops?
Anyhoo, once I did dive into - I devoured this book. I love a good mystery book every now and then and this one sucked me in. After finding out that Persephone was murdered - I wanted to know how, why, who, when, and what. Probably more questions as well but just know that I was in it for the long haul.
Since this book is revolving around her death, well the family is in full on tension mode. Everyone is blaming someone for her death but not really trying to figure out how or why it all happened. There's a lot of twists and turns in this book. We get to see a bit from Ben's side and how he feels/carries such guilt for the entire situation.
This book was sad at times but so freaking interesting. I won't spoil how it ends but I definitely enjoyed the entire thing.

Not a page turner. The book was slow paced, repetitive and predictable. I only finished the book to know the ending. Disappointed!
3.5 starts rounded up. The story line is nothing exciting or new, but the pacing and authors writing are quite wonderful. I couldn’t seem to put this book down. It was a very fast read, and I was satisfied in the end. Megan Collins is an excellent writer.
