One of the few books I couldn’t finish. It started out decent but I lost interest. Did not relate to the characters, at all.
The first half of the book, I couldn’t put it down… I needed to know more. But then it just felt like it was repeating the same things over and over again. It slowly was pieced together but as it played out, I just was beyond infuriated with the mother and her actions back then and now. Sylvie deserved more than this storyline.

Sylvie returns to her childhood home, where sixteen years earlier, her older sister Persephone went missing, never returning home after sneaking out to meet her boyfriend. Though her body was found three days later, her murder remains unsolved. Sylvie's estranged mother, Annie, receives cancer treatment, where Sylvie runs into her sister's former boyfriend. Ben, now a nurse, claims his innocence even now, pushing Sylvie into attempting to unravel the truth behind what happened to her sister.
Reminding myself that this is a debut novel, I think that 3☆ is a generous rating for The Winter Sister. I swear that I've read at least four or five books with similar plot lines, often with less unnecessary exposition. The clues to the big twists were a bit obvious, but it was still a fun read.

I read this once upon a time, but couldn’t remember exactly what happened, so I figured it was time for a reread when Chase picked it. As with most mysteries/thrillers, I don’t like to give too much away. You follow Sylvie, a woman whose sister was murdered at 18 and the case has so far gone unsolved. Because I had already read it, pieces came back to me as I was reading so I remembered the twist, but for a new reader, I think it will catch most of you by surprise. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a quick read with a decent storyline and twist!

2.5 stars. I wasn't that "thrilled" by this thriller - I never felt at the edge of my seat - and didn't care for the characters much, especially the main character (who seemed as if she had never grown beyond a teenager). The writing was ok but nothing to write home about. Thrillers are not my normal realm of reading, though, so this just might not have been for me.
What a debut. Bravo! I pegged the killer right away, but the way she took us on a ride to get to the conclusion. I come from a one sister household with a troubled mother. The way this book spoke to me. If you have a sister. This will hit you hard.
4.5⭐️ - I predicted the twist to this one, but I still really enjoyed this one!
Synopsis: Sylvie’s sister, Persephone, is killed when they’re children and Sylvie knows who did it, but he was never convicted. Now it’s been about 15 years & Sylvie is back in her home town and she’s determined to have the killer brought to light and convicted. But the story isn’t as cut and dry as it originally seemed. What actually happened the night that Persephone was murdered? It seems like everyone knows something that they’re trying to keep hidden

I was very excited to receive a copy of The Winter Sister from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review and loved the premise. As a teenager, Sylvie's sister Persephone was murdered and she carries a huge amount of guilt surrounding her death. It is now 16 years later, her sisters death is still an open case, and Sylvie is moving home to take care of her estranged mother who has cancer.
I really enjoyed the first half this book. Overall, it is very well-written and I found myself wanting to find out what happened to Persephone. It was the second half that I lost some interest. The characters were integrated together very well; I just found the direction the plot took to not be believable. While it was entertaining, I was looking for a more twisty direction and that ah-ha moment.
